  1. Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport Lift Kit Coming Soon!

Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport Lift Kit Coming Soon!

    February 28, 2024
The Toyota Land Cruiser has long stood as a bastion of rugged reliability and off-road capability, and the latest GR Sport version of the 300 Series is no exception. However, enthusiasts and adventurers seeking to improve their overall driving experience face a unique challenge: the integration of the sophisticated Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) and electronic shocks, which are meticulously controlled by the Toyota computer system. This advanced technology, while enhancing the vehicle's adaptability and performance, presents a significant hurdle for those looking to lift their Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport for improved off-road capability and aesthetics.       Overcoming E-KDSS Challenges At the heart of the Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport's suspension system lies the E-KDSS – an electronic evolution of Toyota's renowned Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. This system dynamically adjusts the vehicle's anti-roll bars to enhance off-road performance, a feature that complicates traditional lift kit installations. The common result? A persistent lean to one side, and the dilemma of integrating aftermarket suspension modifications with the vehicle's electronic control unit (ECU).   Engineering Breakthroughs Formula 4x4’s engineers, known for their expertise in 4x4 suspension technology, have cracked the code! After extensive research and development, they've devised an innovative solution that not only accommodates the LC300 GR Sport's complex E-KDSS and electronic shock system but also corrects the notorious lean, ensuring a balanced and raised stance without compromising the vehicle's electronic integrity or off-road prowess.   Introducing an Innovative 300 Series GR Sport Lift Kit The Future of Off-Road Performance We are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of a Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport Lift Kit by Formula 4x4, a game-changing addition to our line of high-performance suspension upgrades. This lift kit is designed specifically for the GR Sport, ensuring compatibility with the E-KDSS and the vehicle's integrated electronic systems. By overcoming these technological hurdles, we are ready to transform the GR Sport's driving experience, offering unparalleled off-road capability paired with a commanding presence on the road.   Customised LC300 GR Sport Suspension Solutions Understanding that each Land Cruiser owner's needs and preferences are unique, Formula 4x4's lift kit for the 300 Series GR Sport is engineered for customisation. Whether LC300 GR Sport owners are aiming to tackle tougher trails or simply improve their vehicle's aesthetic, Formula 4x4’s lift kit will provide the flexibility to achieve their goals without sacrificing ride quality or vehicle stability.   Stay Tuned for the Big Reveal! The anticipation for the Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport Lift Kit by Formula 4x4 is evident, and we're just as excited to bring this innovative solution to you! Keep an eye on our website and follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates, sneak peeks, and the official release date.   Lift Your Land Cruiser’s Adventure With Formula 4x4’s upcoming lift kit, your Land Cruiser 300 Series GR Sport will be equipped to tackle even more ambitious adventures, transcending limits with every journey. 2. Do You Need Upper Control Arms (UCAs) For A 2 Inch Lift?

Do You Need Upper Control Arms (UCAs) For A 2 Inch Lift?

    January 28, 2024
What Role do Upper Control Arms play in Lifted Vehicles? When it comes to lifted vehicles, especially IFS (Independent Front Suspension) vehicles, many four wheel drive enthusiasts wonder if they should upgrade their upper control arms. The simple answer is, yes! A 2 inch lift kit can significantly alter a vehicle's suspension geometry, impacting several key aspects. A few such as wheel alignment, camber, and caster angles which ultimately affects the vehicle's handling and tire wear.   Impact of 2 inch Lift on Wheel Alignment and Suspension Geometry What is the impact of lifting a vehicle by 2 inches? Well, it can ultimately lead to misalignment issues. Lifting any vehicle with stock upper control arms by 2 inches alters its suspension geometry, particularly in the camber and caster angles. The camber angle, crucial for maintaining an even tire contact patch with the surface, can become too ‘positive’ post-lift, wearing out the outer edges of the tires more rapidly. Similarly, the caster angle, essential for stable steering and straight-line tracking, can also become compromised.       Are Aftermarket Upper Control Arms the Solution to Alignment Challenges? Yes, Aftermarket upper control arms are engineered to address alignment challenges. They're designed to restore correct alignment and maintain optimal camber and caster settings, which is crucial for vehicles with a 2 inch lift. This ensures that the tire contact patch is maximised, reducing uneven wear, and enhancing the vehicle's handling.   Advantages of High Articulation Ball Joints and Aftermarket Arms SuperPro upper control arms and other aftermarket options often come with high articulation ball joints, offering improved suspension travel and droop. They not only maximise the benefit of a lift kit but also provide better off-road capabilities. They are also typically stronger than stock arms, offering better durability and increased clearance around the suspension strut, thus preventing over-articulation and potential damage.   Does a Wheel Alignment Maximise Tire Life and Performance? Proper wheel alignment is key to maximising a vehicles’ tire life and overall performance. With a 2 inch lift, the standard factory alignment settings become ineffective, leading to a reduced tire contact surface patch and increased wear. Aftermarket upper control arms allow for a more precise alignment, ensuring that the tires wear evenly and maintain optimal contact with the road.   Fixed Offset vs. Adjustable Ball Joint Upper Control Arms When it comes to choosing upper control arms, there are two main options: fixed offset and adjustable ball joint arms. Fixed offset arms are designed to correct the alignment to a certain degree, suitable for most lifted vehicles. On the other hand, adjustable ball joint arms offer more flexibility, allowing for fine-tuning of both camber and caster angles, making them ideal for lifts higher than 2 inches or for vehicles with specific alignment needs.   Maximising Your Vehicle's Capabilities with the Right Suspension Parts Installing aftermarket upper control arms with a 2 inch lift is not just recommended; it's essential for maintaining proper wheel alignment, tire life, and vehicle handling. Whether you opt for fixed offset or adjustable ball joint upper control arms, upgrading will help you maximise the potential of your lift kit and enhance your vehicle's overall performance.   If you have any further questions about upper control arms and lift kits, feel free to give our team of experts a call on 1800 385 278 or message us in the chat option below. 7. Best Tips on How to Safely Tow a Caravan

Best Tips on How to Safely Tow a Caravan

    June 08, 2023
Unleash your spirit of adventure and embrace the freedom of the open road, all while towing your home-away-from-home securely.  Welcome to the Best Tips on How to Safely Tow a Caravan from Fulcrum Suspension, your trusted companion for every thrilling journey.  In this guide, we'll equip you with the knowledge to master caravan towing, ensuring every trip you make is memorable for all the right reasons. With Fulcrum Suspension's unrivalled 4WD products, rest assured you're investing in top-tier safety and performance, tailored for the unique demands of Australian terrains.  Let's transform your 4X4 driving experience, because your adventures should be limited only by your imagination, not your equipment. Understanding Your Towing Capacity Understanding your vehicle and caravan's combined length, and more importantly, your towing capacity, is the first step. Exceeding this can put undue stress on your vehicle, leading to potential breakdowns and accidents. Choosing the Right Hitch Choosing the right towing vehicle for your hitch is equally important. A weight distribution hitch can alleviate the extra load on the rear axle, providing a smoother and safer ride. Properly Loading Your Caravan Loading your caravan correctly can greatly reduce the risk of caravan sway, a common issue that can make towing more difficult. Ensure all items inside the caravan are securely fastened to avoid any unbalanced caravan scenarios. Towing Rules and Essential Driving Tips Towing a caravan requires more consideration than driving a standalone vehicle. The extra weight calls for extra braking room. So, keep a safe distance from other vehicles and practice gentle braking. Stay within the safe maximum touring speed and never exceed the maximum posted speed limit.  Adjusting Your Mirrors and Utilising Your Vehicle's Engine Braking It's essential to properly adjust your towing mirrors. They provide a clear view of the road behind, making your journey safer. Also, making use of your vehicle's engine braking can significantly help in safely slowing down when towing a caravan, particularly when descending a hill. Setting Up the Electric Brakes and Brake Controller Having an electric brake controller in your tow vehicle is a legal requirement for trailers weighing over 750kg. This helps in managing the caravan's electric brakes, ensuring they engage in sync with the tow vehicle's brakes. It's also wise to set up an electric brake override for emergency scenarios. Regular Checks and Maintenance Before you hit the road, check the caravan's tyre pressure, and ensure the jockey wheel and handbrake are in the down position. Make sure the awning arms and A-frame clamps are secured, and shower doors are locked. Also, check that the safety chains, trailer plug and safety pins are properly connected. Towing Course It's a good idea to consider a towing course. This provides practical tips and can boost your confidence, particularly if you're new to towing a camper trailer or large caravan. 8. AWD vs 4WD: Which One is Best? Detailed Comparison Guide

AWD vs 4WD: Which One is Best? Detailed Comparison Guide

    June 08, 2023
Strap in for the ultimate ride as we delve into the thrilling world of All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) systems. It's time to settle the debate once and for all! Welcome to the ultimate AWD vs 4WD Comparison Guide. This is your roadmap to mastering the mechanics of your drive, expertly crafted by the trailblazers at Fulcrum Suspension. Embark on this journey with us as we dissect the nitty-gritty of AWD and 4WD, spotlighting their unique advantages and guiding you towards the perfect fit for your automotive adventures.  Ready to shift gears? Let's hit the road! Understanding 4WD and AWD At a fundamental level, both four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive systems deliver power to all four wheels of a vehicle, as opposed to the front or rear wheels in a two-wheel drive vehicle.  However, the way they distribute this power varies significantly. A four-wheel drive system is primarily designed for off-road driving. It typically distributes power evenly to the front and rear axles, which can be beneficial when tackling rough terrain.  On the other hand, an all-wheel drive system automatically varies power to each wheel depending on the road conditions, offering a balance between on-road performance and off-road capability. How 4WD Works In a four-wheel drive system, the vehicle's engine sends power to the front and rear driveshafts, which then distribute it to the front and rear wheels. This system is highly effective for off-roading, as it provides robust traction and control.  The four-wheel drive systems can be full-time, meaning all four wheels are driven at the same speed, or part-time, where the driver can choose to engage or disengage the four-wheel drive. How AWD Works In an AWD system, the engine's power is divided between the front and rear wheels, but the distribution is not fixed. Instead, an AWD system adjusts power to each wheel as needed to maximise traction.  Some systems may send more power to the front or rear wheels, while others may distribute power equally. This makes AWD vehicles well-suited for on-road driving in varying conditions, including light off-roading. Comparison of 4WD and AWD The main difference between all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive lies in their operation and intended use. While 4WD offers superior off-road ability, it can be less fuel-efficient on sealed roads.  Conversely, AWD systems are typically more fuel-efficient and offer a smoother ride on-road but may not perform as well in heavy off-road conditions. Pros and Cons of 4WD Four-wheel drive systems are excellent for off-roading, offering superior traction in difficult conditions like mud, sand, and steep slopes.  They also often come with low-range gearing for extreme off-road situations. However, they can be less fuel efficient when used for regular on-road driving. Pros and Cons of AWD AWD systems offer improved traction over two-wheel drive vehicles on slippery roads, making them a good choice for those living in areas with frequent rain or snow.  They are also more fuel-efficient than 4WD systems for regular driving. However, they may not be as capable off-road as a dedicated 4WD system. Choosing Between 4WD and AWD - Which is Right For You?  When deciding between AWD vs 4WD, consider your driving needs. If you plan on frequent off-roading or live in a rugged environment, a four-wheel drive vehicle may be the better choice.  However, if most of your driving is on-road with occasional light off-roading, an AWD vehicle might suit you better. Unlike 4WD, all-wheel drive systems are primarily designed for on-road use. They can provide enhanced grip on wet and slippery surfaces, improving safety in adverse weather conditions.  Additionally, AWD systems are usually more fuel-efficient than four-wheel drives when driven on sealed roads, thanks to their ability to vary power distribution according to need. AWD systems can also improve a vehicle's performance. Many high-performance vehicles, including sports cars and luxury SUVs, use AWD systems to maximise grip and minimise wheel slip during acceleration. This can deliver a more responsive and engaging driving experience. AWD vs 4WD: Empowering Your Drive & Make the Right Choice with Fulcrum Suspension Whether it's tackling rugged off-road terrains or gliding smoothly on city streets, your vehicle's driving system makes all the difference.  The choice between All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) depends on your driving needs, and each brings a unique blend of performance and power. But the journey doesn't end there. Ensuring your chosen system delivers peak performance requires regular maintenance, and that’s where Fulcrum Suspension comes in.  We’re not just a service provider, we’re your partner on the open road and off the beaten path.  Fulcrum Suspension is here to fuel your adventures. 9. Complete 4x4 Tyre Pressure Guide For Different Terrains

Complete 4x4 Tyre Pressure Guide For Different Terrains

    June 08, 2023
Embrace the thrill of conquering Australia's rugged landscapes in your 4WD!  To seize the spirit of adventure and tackle the terrain with confidence, there's one secret weapon you need in your arsenal - the knowledge of how to optimally adjust your tyre pressure.  Welcome to the Fulcrum Suspension's Complete 4x4 Tyre Pressure Guide for Different Terrains! Unleashing the full potential of your 4WD has never been easier. With decades of experience and a passion for everything 4WD, Fulcrum Suspension is not just providing products; we're empowering you to venture further, tread harder, and elevate your off-road experience!  So, get ready to master the art of terrain-based tyre pressure adjustment and unlock new levels of performance and safety on the road. The Basics of 4X4 Tyre Pressure Tyre pressure is a key factor that affects your 4WD's performance, safety, and tyre life.  Too high or too low tyre pressures can lead to reduced grip, increased fuel consumption, and premature tyre wear.  On a more serious note, incorrect air pressure can also lead to tyre damage, reducing steering response and causing your tyres slipping on different surfaces. The right tyre pressure depends on the load your vehicle is carrying, the speed you're driving at, and the type of terrain you're tackling. As a rule of thumb, lighter loads and higher speeds require higher tyre pressures, while heavier loads and lower speeds demand lower pressures.  Always refer to your vehicle's tyre placard for the recommended tyre pressures. Tyre Pressure Guide for Different Terrains Here are some general PSI guidelines for different terrains.  These are approximate figures, and the ideal tyre pressure may vary based on vehicle type, tyre type, and specific driving conditions. Soft Surfaces, Sand & Mud: 15-20 PSI Off-road driving on soft surfaces calls for lower tyre pressures. This increases the tyre's footprint, boosting your vehicle's traction and preventing tyres from sinking into the ground. Remember, very low pressures need careful handling to avoid sudden steering movements. Rough Gravel Roads: 28-36 PSI A slightly lower tyre pressure can result in a smoother ride and better protection for your tyre sidewalls from sharp rocks. However, keep the balance, as too low pressures can increase the risk of tyre damage with the roughness of the terrain. Rocky Terrain: 25-30 PSI For terrain filled with sharp rocks, maintaining low to moderate tyre pressures can help absorb the impacts and enhance your vehicle's ride quality. On-Road Driving (Sealed Roads): 30-35 PIS Higher tyre pressures are generally required for on-road driving on sealed roads. This ensures good fuel economy and prevents excessive heat build-up. Highway Driving: 32-38 PSI This usually requires the highest pressures for a smooth and efficient ride. Important note: when transitioning from off-road to on-road pressures, always use an air compressor to inflate your tyres back to the correct pressure as indicated on your vehicle placard. Remember, always refer to the manufacturer's instructions and your tyre placard - and don’t hesitate to contact our team with questions.  Tools and Techniques for Adjusting Tyre Pressure An accurate tyre pressure gauge and a reliable air compressor are your best friends when it comes to adjusting tyre pressures.  When lowering pressures, do it gradually, checking the pressure regularly to avoid dropping too much. For inflating your tyres, use an air compressor and follow the max pressure guidelines as per your vehicle's tyre placard. Conquer Any Terrain with Confidence: Your Comprehensive Guide to 4x4 Tyre Pressure Mastery Get ready to revolutionise your off-road adventures by perfecting the art of adjusting your 4WD tyre pressure!  As essential as it is for your safety, it's just as vital for preserving the lifespan of your tyres. Remember, the terrain rules the pressure, and routine checks keep those pressures in check. But, you're not alone on this exhilarating journey. Why Choose a 4WD? Driving in Australia presents a unique set of challenges, from rugged bush tracks to the vast expanses of open road. Learning the Importance of Suspension Off-road performance is not solely about the engine's power or the vehicle's ability to carry a load. Considerations When Buying a 4WD Engine & Fuel Economy: When it comes to fuel, diesel vehicles are often the top choice for many Australians. Offering superior fuel economy, especially over long distances, they outshine their petrol engine counterparts. Lower fuel costs mean more budget for those extra accessories or weekend getaways. Towing Capacity: Planning to tow a trailer or carry heavy loads on your off-road escapades? The towing capacity of your 4WD should be a top consideration. Models like the Ford Ranger and Jeep Grand Cherokee are known for their remarkable towing prowess. On-Road Costs: Purchasing new cars comes with a host of on-road costs. These include dealer delivery charges, registration fees, and insurance. So while that shiny new 4WD may seem within budget, make sure to factor these costs in. Ground Clearance & Low Range Gearing: A vehicle with high ground clearance and robust low-range capabilities is better suited for off-road driving. These features ensure you can tackle tough terrains with confidence. Ford Everest: The Ford Everest strikes a balance between practicality and power. This model offers a high towing capacity, making it ideal for carrying heavy loads. Its diesel engine is well-suited for both city driving and for navigating challenging off-road trails. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: With its impressive towing capacity, low-range gearing, and a comfortable cabin, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a reliable choice for off-road enthusiasts. Its independent front suspension guarantees a smooth ride, no matter the terrain. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Offering both a petrol and diesel engine option, this model is both fuel efficient and powerful. In this indispensable guide, we’ll explore the key factors to consider when choosing a suspension system. We’ll arm you with insider tips and tricks to help you navigate your way to the ideal setup for your needs. So buckle up, because your journey to off-road supremacy starts right here with Fulcrum Suspension. It's not just about upgrading your ride, it's about unlocking a new level of adventure! Factors to Consider When Choosing a Suspension System Vehicle Weight The weight of your vehicle is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a suspension system. A heavier vehicle will require a more heavy-duty suspension kit to handle the added weight. Driving Needs Consider your driving needs when selecting a suspension system. If you frequently drive on rough terrain, you'll need a suspension system that can handle the bumps and vibrations. A suspension lift kit can provide more ground clearance for navigating deep ruts and other off-road obstacles. Suspension System Type There are two main types of suspension systems: independent and non-independent. Independent suspension systems allow each wheel to move independently, while non-independent systems have a solid axle, meaning both wheels on an axle move together.  Wheel Travel and Flexibility Consider the wheel travel and flexibility of the suspension system you are considering. More flex can be beneficial for off-roading, but less space between the wheel and the fender can lead to rubbing and other issues. Lift Height The lift height of your suspension kit will determine the size of the wheels and tyres that you can fit on your 4WD. Fulcrum Suspension offers a range of lift kits, including suspension lift kits, to give you more ground clearance and allow for larger tyres. Spring Rates Spring rates are an important consideration when choosing a suspension system. The spring rate determines how much weight the suspension can handle and how much support the vehicle will have. Handling and Traction Handling and traction are important factors to consider when choosing a suspension system. A good suspension system will help your vehicle maintain traction and stability in all driving conditions. Tyre Size The size of your tyres will have an impact on your suspension system. Larger tyres will require more suspension lift to accommodate the increased size. Gear Up for Adventure: Elevate Your Off-Road Experience with Fulcrum Suspension Assembling the perfect suspension system for your 4WD is your key to unearthing untapped potential and unlocking a world of high-octane adventure. It's not just about nailing performance, it's about ensuring your safety as you unleash your vehicle's inner beast. 14. How To Increase Towing Capacity | Mechanic Answers

How To Increase Towing Capacity | Mechanic Answers

    May 22, 2023
How To Increase Towing Capacity: A Comprehensive Guide Are you planning to tow a heavy load? Perhaps you're moving to a new home or need to transport equipment for work.  Whatever your reason for towing, it's important to know your vehicle's towing capacity. Towing capacity is the maximum weight your vehicle can safely tow without causing damage to your vehicle or compromising your safety on the road.  But what if you need to tow more than your vehicle's rated towing capacity? That's where Fulcrum Suspension comes in. Our experts can help you increase your vehicle's towing capacity and ensure that you can tow heavy loads safely and confidently.  In this guide, we'll explore the factors that affect towing capacity and provide tips on how to increase it. Let's get started! Understanding Towing Capacity The first step to increasing your vehicle's towing capacity is to understand what towing capacity means.  Towing capacity is the weight that your vehicle can safely tow without causing damage to the vehicle's frame, suspension, transmission or engine.  It is important to note that the maximum towing capacity listed by the vehicle manufacturer is based on ideal conditions, and other factors can impact the towing capacity of your vehicle. Factors that Affect Towing Capacity Several factors can impact your vehicle's towing capacity. The following are some of the most important factors you need to consider when planning to tow a heavy load: Vehicle Towing Capacity: The first and most important factor is your vehicle's towing capacity. The maximum towing capacity is typically listed in the owner's manual or on a compliance plate located on the vehicle. It's important to always stay within the maximum towing capacity listed by the vehicle manufacturer. Weight Distribution: Weight distribution is also important when towing a heavy load. Proper weight distribution will ensure that the weight of the load is evenly distributed between the front and rear axles of your vehicle, providing better steering control and a smoother ride. Using a weight distribution hitch can help distribute the weight evenly. Trailer Hitch: The trailer hitch is an important component when towing a heavy load. Ensure that your trailer hitch is rated for the weight of the load you're planning to tow. The tow ball and tow ball weight also need to be rated for the weight of the load. Braking System: A braking system is necessary for trailers weighing over 750 kg. The braking system ensures that the trailer can stop safely when needed, and reduces the strain on your vehicle's brakes. Vehicle's Suspension: Your vehicle's suspension system needs to be able to handle the weight of the load.  Curb Weight and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): The curb weight of your vehicle is the weight of the vehicle when it's empty, including all standard equipment and fuel. The GVWR is the maximum weight your vehicle can safely carry, including passengers and cargo. It's important to always stay within your vehicle's GVWR when towing a load. Increasing Towing Capacity If you're looking to increase your vehicle's towing capacity, there are several steps you can take to do so: Upgrade Your Vehicle's Suspension: Upgrading your vehicle's suspension system can help increase your vehicle's towing capacity. Stiffer springs, heavy-duty shock absorbers, and a larger radiator can all help support a heavier load. Increase the Curb Weight: Increasing the curb weight of your vehicle can help increase your vehicle's towing capacity. You can add weight to your vehicle by installing heavier parts, such as a stronger exhaust system or a heavier battery. Consider a GVM Upgrade: A GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) upgrade involves upgrading your vehicle's maximum weight capacity. This upgrade will allow you to carry and tow heavier loads safely. Use Towing Upgrades: There are many quality towing upgrades available that can help increase your vehicle's towing capacity. Weight Distribution Hitch This hitch can help balance the weight between your vehicle and the trailer, which reduces the stress on your tow vehicle's suspension and tires.  A weight distribution hitch consists of a receiver, which is attached to the tow vehicle's frame, and spring bars, which distribute the weight of the trailer.  It is important to note that weight distribution hitches have weight limits, so it's essential to check the hitch's maximum weight capacity before using it. Towing Upgrades If you are regularly towing heavy loads, you may want to consider investing in towing upgrades. These upgrades can help increase your vehicle's towing capacity and make towing safer and easier.  Some of the most popular towing upgrades include installing a towing package, upgrading the brakes and exhaust system, and adding stiffer springs. It's important to note that some towing upgrades may affect your vehicle's warranty, so be sure to consult with your vehicle's manufacturer before making any changes. Calculating Towing Capacity Calculating your vehicle's towing capacity is essential to ensure that you are towing safely and within legal limits.  To calculate your towing capacity, you need to know your vehicle's curb weight, tow rating, and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).  The GVWR is the maximum amount that your vehicle can weigh, including passengers, cargo, and the weight of the vehicle itself. You can find this information in your vehicle's owner's manual or on the compliance plate. To calculate your vehicle's maximum towing capacity, subtract your vehicle's curb weight from the GVWR. The resulting number is your vehicle's maximum payload capacity.  Next, subtract the weight of any cargo, passengers, and accessories from the payload capacity. The resulting number is your vehicle's maximum towing capacity. Upgrading Your Vehicle If your current vehicle isn't capable of towing the weight you need, it may be time to consider upgrading to a heavier vehicle.  When choosing a new vehicle, it's essential to consider its towing capacity, as well as other factors such as fuel efficiency and steering control. You can also consider investing in a vehicle with a larger radiator to prevent overheating and other issues when towing heavy loads. Another option is to consider a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) upgrade. A GVM upgrade increases the legal limit of your vehicle's weight, allowing you to safely tow heavier loads.  It's important to note that GVM upgrades must be done by a qualified mechanic and may affect your vehicle's warranty. 15. How Does Electric Power Steering Work? | Mechanic Answers

How Does Electric Power Steering Work? | Mechanic Answers

    May 22, 2023
How Does Electric Power Steering Work? Are you tired of feeling like you're wrestling with your car's steering wheel every time you hit a turn or manoeuvre your vehicle?  Thankfully, modern technology has made it easier than ever to enjoy effortless steering with the introduction of electric power steering systems.  At Fulcrum Suspension, we understand the importance of having a smooth ride and an easy-to-handle steering system for your vehicle.  In this article, we'll delve into the mechanics of electric power steering and highlight its many benefits over traditional hydraulic power steering systems. Electric Power Steering Systems An electric power steering system uses an electric motor mounted on the steering column to provide steering assistance. The motor is controlled by a control module that receives inputs from sensors that detect steering angle, steering input, and vehicle speed.  The control module then sends signals to the electric motor to provide steering assistance as needed. The system is powered by the vehicle's electrical system and does not require hydraulic pressure like traditional power steering systems. EPS Working Mechanism There are three main types of electric power steering systems: column-assist, rack-assist, and pinion-assist.  In a column-assist system, the electric motor is located on the steering column, providing steering assistance through the steering gear. In a rack-assist system, the electric motor is mounted on the steering rack, and in a pinion-assist system, the motor is mounted on the steering pinion. Column-assist systems are the most common type of electric power steering system. In these systems, the electric motor is located on the steering column, and it provides steering assistance through the steering gear.  Rack-assist systems are less common and have the electric motor mounted on the steering rack. These systems are usually found in vehicles with a mid-engine layout, where the steering column is too short for a column-assist system. Pinion-assist systems are typically used in small cars with limited space in the engine compartment. Advantages of EPS Electric power steering has many advantages over traditional hydraulic power steering systems. One of the major benefits of EPS is that it is lighter and more fuel-efficient than hydraulic systems.  Since EPS does not rely on hydraulic fluid or a pump, it requires less maintenance than hydraulic systems, resulting in cost savings over time. EPS also provides greater stability and more precise steering assistance, particularly at high speeds, where it can help improve handling and reduce the effort needed to steer the vehicle. EPS also allows engineers to tailor the level of steering assistance for different driving conditions. For example, EPS can provide more assistance at low speeds for easier parking or less assistance at high speeds for greater stability.  EPS can also provide consistent levels of power assistance, regardless of engine speed, unlike hydraulic power steering, which requires a pump driven by the engine. Disadvantages of EPS The main disadvantage of EPS is the lack of tactile feedback some drivers prefer in hydraulic power steering systems. Hydraulic power steering provides more steering feel and feedback, which some drivers prefer.  In contrast, EPS provides a more disconnected feeling, and some drivers may find it less engaging or enjoyable to drive. Additionally, EPS can be more expensive to repair or replace than hydraulic systems, and there have been some concerns about reliability issues.  In the event of a failure, EPS may require the replacement of the entire system, whereas hydraulic power steering may only require the repair of a single component, such as a power steering pump. Maintenance and Troubleshooting Maintaining an electric power steering system involves checking the power steering fluid level regularly and inspecting the electrical connections for signs of wear or damage.  Common problems with electric power steering systems include sensor malfunctions, motor failures, and hydraulic fluid leaks.  If you suspect a problem with your EPS system, it is recommended to seek professional help to diagnose and repair the issue. Experience Effortless Steering with Electric Power Steering Systems from Fulcrum Suspension Electric power steering is a major advancement in the automotive world, offering many benefits over traditional hydraulic power steering systems.  EPS provides a consistent level of power assistance, greater stability, and a more precise steering feel, all while being more fuel-efficient and requiring less maintenance.  Whether you're driving a high-performance sports car or an off-road 4WD, electric power steering can provide you with the effortless and precise steering you need for a comfortable and safe ride.  At Fulcrum Suspension, we are committed to helping you get the most out of your vehicle's steering system. If you're considering upgrading your steering system to electric power steering, or if you need maintenance or repairs on your existing system, contact us today or visit us in-store.  Our team of experts will be happy to assist you and ensure that your vehicle's steering system is in top-notch condition. 16. Difference Between Body Lift & Suspension Lift

Difference Between Body Lift & Suspension Lift

    May 03, 2023
Lifting your 4WD or SUV can make a serious difference in its off-road capability and overall appearance. However, with so many different types of lift kits available on the market, it can be hard to know where to start.  In this article, Fulcrum Suspension explores the differences between two common types of lift kits: body lifts and suspension lifts. Body Lifts A body lift raises the body of your 4WD or SUV off the frame by adding spacers or blocks between the body and the frame. This allows for larger tires and extra ground clearance, but without changing the suspension. However, it is important to note that a body lift only lifts the body, and not the suspension. On the other hand, a spacer lift kit or block lift kit lifts the suspension of the vehicle. These kits use spacers or blocks to raise the height of the suspension, allowing for larger tires and greater ground clearance. However, they do not replace or upgrade the factory springs and shocks. A suspension lift kit is a full upgrade of the vehicle's suspension system, including springs, shocks, and other components. This type of lift kit provides the most significant increase in ground clearance and allows for the use of larger tires. Suspension lift kits are often used for off-road applications where maximum clearance is needed. Suspension Lifts A suspension lift raises the entire vehicle, including the suspension, which can improve off-road capability and provide additional ground clearance.  Suspension lift kits usually come with longer coil springs or strut spacers, and may also include longer control arms or torsion bars. This allows for more tire clearance and larger wheels, which can help your truck or SUV handle more challenging off-road terrain. A suspension lift can also help to level out your vehicle, which can be especially useful if you carry heavy loads or frequently tow. It can help to correct the angle of your truck's suspension, which can improve ride quality and prevent premature wear on your suspension components. However, suspension lifts can be expensive, and require more complicated installation than body lift kits.  They can also affect your truck's steering geometry, which can cause handling issues if not properly addressed. Post-installation alignment is necessary to ensure proper handling and prevent premature tire wear. Which Lift is Right for You? Choosing between a body lift and a suspension lift ultimately comes down to personal preference and intended use.  If you want to improve your off-road capabilities and add more ground clearance, a suspension lift is likely the better choice.  However, if you're looking for a more affordable option to add larger tires and a powerful look to your truck or SUV, a body lift might be the way to go. In general, body lifts are easier to install, less expensive, and maintain factory ride quality.  Suspension lifts offer more off-road capability, but can be more expensive and require additional modifications to your truck's suspension and drivetrain. Discover the Ultimate Lift Kit With Fulcrum Suspension In the end, choosing between a body lift and a suspension lift comes down to your priorities and intended use for your truck or SUV.  Whether you're off-roading, looking to improve your vehicle's appearance, or simply want to add extra ground clearance, there's a lift kit out there that can meet your needs.  At Fulcrum Suspensions, we offer a wide range of lift kits for most vehicles, including simple kits for those who want to add a few inches of lift, as well as more advanced suspension lift kits for serious off-roading.  Contact us today to learn more about your options for lifting your truck or SUV. Body Lift Kit - Suspension Lift Kit - Frequently Asked Questions How much does a lift kit cost in Australia?  The price range of a lift kit installation can vary greatly depending on several factors such as the make and model of the vehicle, the age of the vehicle, the level of customization required, and the type of components being changed.  Generally, lift kits can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on these variables. At our Fulcrum Suspensions, we offer a free consultation to assess your vehicle and discuss your specific lift kit needs.  Our expert staff can provide you with a detailed written quotation for the supply, installation, and set up of your lift kit, so you can make an informed decision based on your budget and specific requirements.  We understand that lifting your vehicle can be a big investment, and we strive to provide transparent pricing and high-quality workmanship to ensure your complete satisfaction.  Contact us today to schedule a consultation and get started on your lift kit installation. What are the pros and cons of a body lift?  A body lift has several pros and cons to consider when deciding if it is the right choice for your vehicle. Here are some of the main pros and cons of a body lift: Pros: Relatively inexpensive: Compared to a suspension lift, a body lift is generally less expensive and can be a good option for those on a tighter budget. Maintains factory ride quality: A body lift raises the body of the vehicle while leaving the suspension in its original position, so it does not affect the ride quality of the vehicle. Allows for larger tires: A body lift can provide extra clearance for larger tires, which can improve off-road performance and give your vehicle a more aggressive look. Can be used to correct sagging: If your vehicle is experiencing sagging or a drooping body, a body lift can help to correct this issue. Cons: Does not improve off-road performance: Unlike a suspension lift, a body lift does not improve off-road capability and may not be suitable for those who frequently go off-roading. May look awkward: With a body lift, there can be a noticeable gap between the body and the frame, which some people may find unattractive or awkward-looking. Limited amount of lift available: A body lift typically only provides a few inches of lift, so if you are looking for a more significant lift, a suspension lift may be a better option. Can increase body roll: By raising the centre of gravity, a body lift can increase body roll and decrease stability when cornering.   Ultimately, the decision to choose a body lift depends on your intended use for your vehicle and your personal preferences.  If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive way to add larger tires and improve the look of your vehicle, a body lift may be a good option.  However, if you want to improve off-road performance and provide more ground clearance, a suspension lift may be a better choice. 18. Buying A Suspension System For Your 4WD? | Mechanic's Advice

Buying A Suspension System For Your 4WD? | Mechanic's Advice

    May 03, 2023
G'day Aussie 4WD enthusiasts! If you're looking to take your off-roading adventures to the next level, then you know that having the right suspension is a must-have.  A top-notch suspension will give you the confidence to tackle rough terrains and bumps with ease, while also providing a comfortable ride for you and your passengers.  But let's face it, with so many options out there, finding the perfect suspension can feel like a daunting task.  So in this article, the Fulcrum team gives you the lowdown on what to look for when buying a suspension for your 4WD.  Suspension Types There are different types of suspension available, such as solid axle, independent front suspension, and air suspension. Solid axle suspension is best suited for heavy-duty off-road use, while independent front suspension is ideal for on-road driving. Air suspension provides a comfortable ride but may not be the best for off-roading. Suspension Lift Kits A suspension lift kit can provide extra ground clearance and better wheel travel. When choosing a lift kit, you need to consider factors such as weight capacity, ride quality, and the maximum tyre size that the kit can accommodate. A higher lift kit may give you more ground clearance, but it may also lead to a rougher ride. Shock Absorbers Shock absorbers are an essential part of any suspension, as they help absorb the impact of bumps and rough terrain. When choosing shock absorbers, consider factors such as their damping characteristics, valving, and whether they are adjustable. Heavy-duty shock absorbers may provide a firmer ride but can handle rough terrain better. Coil Springs and Leaf Springs Coil springs are used in independent front suspension, while leaf springs are used in solid axle suspension. The right springs can provide a comfortable ride and improved load-carrying capacity. When choosing coil or leaf springs, you need to consider factors such as the number of leaves or coils, their thickness, and their spring rate. Weight Capacity Another factor to consider is weight capacity. If you plan to carry a lot of gear or regularly tow heavy loads, you'll need a suspension that can handle the extra weight. Heavy-duty suspension with stiffer springs and heavier-duty shock absorbers can provide the necessary support for these heavier loads. Ground Clearance and Wheel Travel Ground clearance is essential for off-roading, as it allows your vehicle to pass over obstacles without damage. Wheel travel refers to the range of motion that your wheels can move up and down. The right suspension can provide both extra ground clearance and better wheel travel, which can improve your vehicle's off-road performance. Buy the Best Suspension Kit at Fulcrum Suspensions At Fulcrum Suspension, we understand how important it is to have suspension that meets your needs and performs well.  That's why we offer a range of high-quality suspension kits and lift kits, including shock absorbers, coil and leaf springs, and more, to suit a variety of 4WD models and driving styles. 19. Guide To Suspension Systems

    Guide To Suspension Systems

    May 03, 2023
Welcome to the ultimate guide to suspension systems for your 4WD in Australia!  If you are a 4WD enthusiast, you know how important it is to have a good suspension system.  A good suspension system will ensure that you have a comfortable ride, and more importantly, it will keep you safe when you're out there off-roading. At Fulcrum Suspension, we offer a wide range of suspension systems, including double wishbone suspension, independent suspension, coil and leaf springs, and shock absorbers.  In this guide, we will discuss everything you need to know about suspension systems, including their components, types, and how to choose the right suspension system for your 4WD. Types of Suspension Systems There are two main types of suspension systems for 4WDs: independent suspension and non-independent suspension. Independent suspension systems are the most common, and they allow each wheel to move independently.  Non-independent suspension systems, on the other hand, have a solid axle, which means that both wheels on an axle move together. Double wishbone suspension is a type of independent suspension system that uses two wishbone-shaped arms to connect the wheel hub to the frame. It is commonly used in sports cars and other high-performance vehicles.  Multi-link suspension is another type of independent suspension system that uses lateral arms to connect the wheel hub to the frame. It is often found in SUVs and other off-road vehicles. Components of a Suspension System The basic components of a suspension system include shock absorbers, coil and leaf springs, control arms, and sway bars.  Shock absorbers are responsible for controlling the vertical movement of the wheels. Coil and leaf springs provide support and cushioning, absorbing the force of rough terrain.  Control arms connect the suspension system to the vehicle's frame, and sway bars (also called anti-roll bars) help reduce body roll. Suspension Maintenance It's important to maintain your suspension system to ensure it continues to perform optimally. This could include regular inspections, cleaning, and lubrication of components like the shock absorbers and suspension springs. Upgrades for Specific Uses Depending on your specific driving needs, you may want to consider upgrading your suspension system to better handle certain conditions. For example, if you frequently carry heavy loads or drive on rough terrain, heavy-duty shock absorbers or stiffer suspension springs could be a good choice. Suspension Installation Installing a new suspension system can be a complex task, and it's important to ensure it's done correctly for optimal performance and safety. Including information on proper installation techniques or recommending a professional installer could be helpful for readers. Choosing the Right Suspension System Choosing the right suspension system for your 4WD depends on a number of factors, including your driving style, vehicle weight, and the type of terrain you'll be driving on.  For example, a lighter suspension system is better for on-road driving, while a heavier-duty system is better for off-roading. At Fulcrum Suspension, we offer a range of suspension systems designed to suit different driving styles and vehicle types.  Our suspension systems are designed to provide a smoother ride, better handling, and improved performance off-road. What are the benefits of a 4WD suspension system?  Australian 4WD drivers often face rough terrains and challenging conditions, which can take a toll on their vehicle's suspension.  By upgrading to a high-quality suspension system, drivers can enjoy a smoother ride and better performance both on and off the road.  A suspension system can also provide additional ground clearance, allowing drivers to tackle larger obstacles and navigate tough terrain with ease.  Ultimately, investing in a top-notch suspension system is an excellent choice for any Australian 4WD driver who wants to maximise their vehicle's capabilities and enjoy a more comfortable ride. Find the Ultimate Suspension Systems at Fulcrum Suspensions In conclusion, a good suspension system is essential for any 4WD owner in Australia.  Whether you're driving on-road or off-road, your suspension system will play a critical role in keeping you safe and comfortable.  At Fulcrum Suspension, we offer a wide range of suspension systems, including double wishbone suspension, independent suspension, coil and leaf springs, and shock absorbers.  We have the expertise to help you choose the right suspension system for your 4WD, and we stand behind our products with a commitment to quality and customer service. 21. The Best Hilux Lift Kit You Can Get?

    April 18, 2023
Are you looking for the best lift kit for your Toyota Hilux? Look no further than the Formula 4x4 Lift Kit! Designed in Australia for harsh Australian conditions, this lift kit offers unbeatable comfort whether you're driving to work or going off-roading.       This Toyota Hilux Lift Kit provides a lift of approximately two inches or 50 millimeters, but there's also an adjustable and remote res shock lift kit is available that can be adjusted up to three inches or 75 millimeters. One of the key features of this lift kit is its shocks. The Formula 4x4 shocks are designed to be larger in size compared to the stock shocks, allowing for more oil capacity and preventing overheating during off-road adventures. In fact, through Formula engineering, this lift kit has been found to be up to five times more comfortable than other options on the market.   The Formula 4x4 Lift Kit for the Toyota Hilux comes with everything you need to lift your vehicle by two inches. However, it's highly recommended to consider some optional extras to ensure the best performance possible. For example, upper control arms are available to fix any alignment issues that may arise from the lift, and airbags can help stabilize and level the vehicle when carrying heavy loads, such as when towing a trailer or carrying extra cargo.   Another important upgrade to consider is a diff drop kit. Lifting the vehicle can cause CV angle and CV bind issues, which can lead to broken CVs during off-road adventures. A diff drop kit can bring the diff angle down by about an inch, helping to level the CVs and prevent any potential issues.   Choosing the right lift kit and optional extras can be overwhelming, but the Fulcrum website provides clear options and information to help you make the best decision. If you're still unsure, you can even reach out to their suspension experts for assistance. 22. The Best Suspension Upgrades for Your Toyota Hilux on a Budget

    April 18, 2023
If you own a Toyota Hilux and want to upgrade its suspension without breaking the bank, you're in luck. In this article, we will discuss the best suspension upgrades you can get for your Toyota Hilux that will improve its performance, off-road capabilities, and stability without costing you a fortune.       One of the most popular suspension upgrades for a Toyota Hilux is a lift kit. A lift kit adds height to your vehicle, allowing you to fit larger tires, which in turn increases ground clearance. Ground clearance is crucial for off-roading as it helps you clear obstacles such as ruts and rocks with ease. Additionally, a lift kit also upgrades the spring rate and shocks, providing a different feel compared to the OEM shocks and improving the overall performance of your Hilux.   Another important upgrade to consider is upgrading the upper control arms. When you lift your vehicle, it changes the camber and caster angle, which can affect tire wear and alignment. Upgrading the upper control arms with built-in camber and caster correction can fix alignment issues and prevent tire wear, ensuring a smooth and safe driving experience.   The diff drop kit is an often-overlooked upgrade but can greatly improve the performance of your Toyota Hilux. A high CV angle can cause the CV to bind off-road, leading to damage or breakage. Installing a diff drop kit lowers the diff, reducing the CV angle and preventing binding, thus increasing the durability and reliability of your Hilux.   Airbags are becoming increasingly popular upgrades for Toyota Hilux owners, especially for those who tow caravans or camper trailers. Airbags are installed between the leaf springs and chassis (or coils, if you have a coil suspension), and they help to level out the vehicle when carrying extra load. If your Hilux is rated for a certain weight but you're going to be towing a heavier load, airbags can help maintain a level ride, stabilize the vehicle, and prevent sagging or bottoming out.   Sway bars are also important upgrades to consider for your Toyota Hilux. While many vehicles come with a front sway bar from the factory, not all have a rear sway bar. Installing a rear sway bar can greatly reduce body roll and improve stability, especially when carrying heavy loads or driving on uneven terrain.   Replacing worn-out rubber bushes with polyurethane bushes is another smart suspension upgrade for your Toyota Hilux. Rubber bushes can deteriorate over time, leading to excessive movement in joints and causing problems. Polyurethane bushes are more durable and long-lasting, helping to reduce movement and improve overall performance.   Lastly, if you're planning to tow a large caravan or add a lot of accessories to your Toyota Hilux, upgrading your brakes is essential. Stock factory brakes may not be designed to handle the extra load, so investing in a brake upgrade kit can greatly improve braking performance and safety.   In conclusion, upgrading your Toyota Hilux's suspension doesn't have to break the bank. By considering options such as lift kits, upper control arms, diff drop kits, airbags, sway bars, polyurethane bushes, and brake upgrade kits, you can significantly enhance the performance, off-road capabilities, and stability of your Hilux without spending a fortune. If you're interested in purchasing any of these upgrades, you can visit our website or contact our customer service team for further assistance. Upgrade your Toyota Hilux's suspension today and enjoy a smoother, more capable ride on and off the road.

  23. The Best Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series GVM Upgrade Kit

    April 18, 2023
If you own a Land Cruiser 300 Series, you may have encountered the issue of limited payload capacity due to the factory Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) rating of only 3280 kilograms. With the weight of the vehicle itself and a few passengers, there is little room left for accessories or towing a caravan or camper trailer legally. However, there is a solution that allows you to safely and legally carry a lot more - the Formula 4x4 GVM upgrade kit.       The Formula 4x4 GVM upgrade for the Land Cruiser 300 Series is a game-changer, providing a massive 4000 kilograms total GVM, which gives you the ability to tow more and carry more than the vehicle was originally designed for. This upgrade comes with a five-year unlimited kilometer warranty and has been specifically engineered and designed in Australia to excel in all conditions, whether you are driving on or off-road, commuting to work, or tackling challenging terrains like Cape York.   One of the key features of the Formula 4x4 GVM kit is the 2-inch or 50-millimeter lift it provides to the Land Cruiser 300 Series, although the actual lift may vary depending on the load being carried. To ensure optimal performance and comfort, the kit also includes an upper control arm that prevents tire wear issues. Unlike factory shocks that may not be sufficient for heavy loads, the Formula 4x4 shocks are larger in diameter, holding more oil and providing superior comfort on and off-road. In fact, Formula 4x4 shocks have been found to be up to five times more comfortable than other shocks on the market, thanks to their engineering and performance-oriented design.   Another optional upgrade for the Formula 4x4 GVM kit is an airbag system, which is particularly beneficial if you plan to tow a heavy caravan or load up your vehicle with accessories and gear for camping trips. The airbags can be easily installed inside the coils and inflated to a desired PSI to level the vehicle, ensuring a smooth and comfortable driving experience.   Additionally, the Formula 4x4 GVM kit offers an optional extra panhard rod, which is highly recommended to correct the rear diff axis after the vehicle has been lifted with the GVM kit. This ensures optimal handling and stability while driving, even with the increased load carrying capacity.   When purchasing the Landcruiser 300 Series GVM kit online, the friendly customer service team at Fulcrum will ensure that you have everything you need to suit your specific application. They are always ready to answer any questions you may have about the kit or the installation process. With the Formula 4x4 GVM kit, you can enjoy the benefits of increased towing capacity and load carrying ability without sacrificing comfort and performance.   Off-road enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the Formula 4x4 GVM kit performs exceptionally well in challenging terrains. The heavy-duty springs in the kit provide the necessary firmness for carrying heavy loads, while the superior engineering of Formula 4x4 shocks ensures a comfortable and smooth ride. As demonstrated in the video, the Formula 4x4 GVM kit allows you to confidently tackle off-road adventures without compromising on comfort or performance.   If you're interested in upgrading your Land Cruiser 300 Series with the Formula 4x4 GVM kit, click here to see more about the kit. The customer service team is also always ready to assist with any questions or concerns you may have. 24. Upgrade Your Suzuki Jimny with the Best 4x4 Lift Kit on the Market

    April 18, 2023
If you own a Suzuki Jimny and you're looking to upgrade it for off-road adventures, then look no further than the Formula 4x4 lift kit. In this article, we'll explore why this lift kit is considered the best on the market, and how it addresses common issues faced by Jimny owners when lifting their vehicles.        The Formula 4x4 lift kit comes with everything you need to get started on your adventure, and it even comes with a five-year unlimited kilometre warranty for added peace of mind. This lift kit has been specifically designed with both comfort and off-road performance in mind, making it a top choice for Suzuki Jimny owners.    One of the main issues that Jimny owners face when lifting their vehicles is changes in the driveshaft angle at full droop, which can result in contact with the chassis. Additionally, there are issues with the diff breathers and brake lines getting stressed and strained at full droop, as well as problems with coil dislocation. Many Suzuki Jimny 4wd lift kits on the market do not address these issues, but the Formula 4x4 lift kit has them covered.    This Suzuki Jimny lift kit includes a new cross member that allows the driveshaft to droop correctly with the two inches of lift, preventing it from hitting the chassis and strengthening the chassis in the process. Extended diff breathers and brake lines are also included to prevent stretching or issues with these components at full droop. The Suzuki Jimny 4x4 lift kit also comes with caster correction bushes to fix caster issues that arise when lifting solid axle vehicles, which helps to prevent tire wear and alignment problems.    In addition to these fixes, this Suzuki Jimny lift kit also includes shocks and springs that are specifically tuned to work together, preventing coil dislocation issues and ensuring that the vehicle drives as intended both on and off-road. The shocks in the lift kit are larger in diameter and longer than OEM shocks, providing increased oil capacity and cooling efficiency for better performance without sacrificing comfort.    For those who plan to carry heavy loads or tow with their lifted Jimny, the Formula 4x4 lift kit also offers the option to add an airbag kit. This kit is especially useful if you plan to exceed the 100 kilo spring rate that comes with the Jimny, as the airbags help prevent the spring from compressing fully, keeping your vehicle level and improving its towing capacity. You can find more information on the airbag kit options on the Falcon website or by reaching out to their customer service team.    After installing the Formula 4x4 lift kit, many Jimny owners have reported a significant improvement in their vehicle's off-road performance. With increased travel and clearance, as well as the prevention of common issues like driveshaft contact with the chassis, owners have gained more confidence in taking their Jimnys off-road. Despite the upgrades, the Formula 4x4 shocks are designed with comfort in mind, providing a smooth and enjoyable ride even in rough terrain.    In conclusion, if you're a Suzuki Jimny owner looking to upgrade your vehicle for off-road adventures, the Formula 4x4 lift kit is the top choice on the market. With its comprehensive fixes for common issues, tuned shocks and springs, and optional airbag kit, this lift kit provides the best performance and comfort for your Jimny. Head over to the Formula 4x4 website to learn more and get started on your next off-road adventure with confidence!

  25. Melting in the Heat at the 2023 Brisbane 4x4 Show

    April 14, 2023
The national 4x4 show in Brisbane is a highly anticipated event for off-road enthusiasts, and this year's show did not disappoint. As a first-time attendee, I was just as excited as everyone else to see what this year's show had to offer. From new designs and accessories to unique modifications, there was something for every 4x4 lover to enjoy.       One of the highlights of the show was the next generation Ranger on display at the Fulcrum stand. Equipped with a new EGR Bull Bar, the design of this bar was excellent and perfectly suited the overall look of the vehicle. The ROH Raid Wheels with the Falken Wildpeak tyres gave the Ranger a rugged stance, adding to its truck-like appearance. The addition of phat bars side steps provided extra protection for off-road adventures, and the TC boxes canopy setup was a standout feature that caught everyone's attention. Although currently empty, the canopy is set to be filled with exciting additions such as a fridge and a 12-volt system in the future, making it a practical and functional addition to the Ranger.   Another notable display was the brand new F4R remote res shocks range, featuring the 200 series kit. The updated design with an alloy body instead of steel was a significant change that piqued the interest of many visitors. An unboxing video is set to be released soon, providing in-depth details on the specifications and design changes of this exciting range.   One of the most eye-catching vehicles at the show was the Toyzuki, a modified Suzuki Jimny that instantly caught my attention. With the brand name "Toyzuki" emblazoned on the front where "Suzuki" or "Toyota" would typically be, this unique vehicle stood out from the crowd. The chop with canopy and various other modifications made to the vehicle were impressive, and as a Toyota owner myself, I was particularly drawn to this build.   As the temperature soared at the 4x4 show, seeking shade became a priority, and the TC Boxes stand provided a welcome respite from the heat. I had the opportunity to speak with Josh from TC Boxes about their Gladiator build, which was a head-turner at the show. The 1650 tray paired with a 1200 canopy provided ample deck space at the back, with additional storage options such as a spare wheel holder or swag. The interior fit-out was simple yet functional, with a 40-liter tilt fridge slide and an Enerdrive Explorer system powered by a 200 amp hour Enerdrive battery. The trundle drawer and pantry slide offered convenient storage solutions for pantry gear and equipment, making this build a practical choice for touring and outdoor adventures.   Another impressive display was “The Little Rig” a Chopped Suzuki Jimny at the Legendex and DMW's stand. The vehicle had a unique and eye-catching design, and I had the opportunity to speak with Darren and Barney, the masterminds behind the build. Despite some initial setbacks, including a damaged car, their creativity and innovation shone through in their unique creation, making it a must-see at the show.   In conclusion, the Brisbane 4x4 show was a hotbed of excitement and innovation for off-road enthusiasts. From new designs and accessories to unique modifications, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Highlights included the next generation Ranger with its impressive accessories, the brand new F4R range with its updated design, the Toyzuki with its chop plus canopy, and the practical and functional Gladiator build by TC Boxes. The rig at Legendex and DMW's stand also stood out for its unique design and creative approach. Overall, the show was a melting pot of ideas and inspiration for the 4x4 community, and I cannot wait for the next one!

  30. New Upgraded Lift Kit packaging

    New Upgraded Lift Kit packaging

    July 19, 2021
New Upgraded Lift Kit packaging You asked for it and we listened! We recently updated our lift kit packaging taking it to the next level!      Picture: Fulcrum Suspensions dispatch team loading Fulcrum Lift Kits onto a truck for delivery    Shipping lift kits is tricky business, mainly because the parts are distinctively different sizes, being a combination of multiple suspension components, including various springs, bushings, bolts, shocks, etc. Due to the variety of suspension components we have, historically when shipping our lift kits, we would send all parts in four to three grouped packages, all based on the size and type of component. For example, springs would go together, shocks would be grouped, then bushes and U-bolts would be sent on their own and if there were any other miscellaneous items left, they would be sent separately. This caused a couple of issues, one mainly being that customer orders would arrive as separate packages one day after the other, even though we would send all items from our Fulcrum warehouses on the same day. In addition, once shipping couriers receive orders, they have varied handling polices for items with different weights and sizes, causing some items to be delayed by a day or longer when they finalise and process their deliveries.    Picture: A few lift kit orders waiting to be placed on the delivery truck    As a business we resented the delays and subsequent issues, especially as we continue to strive in providing the finest overall experience to our customers. As a result, Fulcrum Suspensions promptly assembled a team to review and overhaul our lift kit packaging procedure, aimed to further improve our customer service. Now successfully updated, our improved ‘Upgraded Packaging’ allows all lift kit parts including leaf springs, shackles, bushings, shocks, and coil springs to be packaged together and sent all at once in a protected state. Ultimately giving you fast delivery and order security. This means that that you will get ONE delivery, for everything that you ordered! So, no more lost in transit items, no more receiving separate suspension products and you will no longer have to deal with the nuisance of waiting on remaining items to be delivered.      Picture: ‘Upgraded Packaging’ including a highly stable wood pallet and clear pallet stretch wrap    Fulcrum Suspensions new ‘Upgraded Packaging’ includes a highly stable wood pallet and clear pallet stretch wrap which firmly holds the lift kit components in place. The clear pallet stretch wrap is extremely secure but can be easily opened with a box cutter or other sharp implement. Our new lift kit packaging also minimizes the risk of damage to the lift kit components as it is highly secure and stable. The overall benefits of our new lift kit packaging include: Physical protection, less risk of lift kit component damage Faster overall delivery, faster loading and unloading Efficient storage and material handling Improved product convenience, receive all lift kit parts at ONCE Improved usability, fit-for-purpose and simple to open Pallet is reusable, helping our environment. If you’re looking for a lift kit or other suspension upgrade, send us a message or give us a call on 1800 385 278.

  33. Fraser Island Clean Up 2021 – Highlights

Fraser Island Clean Up 2021 – Highlights

    June 08, 2021
Fraser Island Clean Up 2021 – Highlights  Every year Fulcrum Suspensions supports and sponsor’s the Fraser Island (K’gari) Clean Up. It’s such a fantastic cause, as it aims improve recreational four-wheel driving, protects and cleans the environment, encourages education, whilst creating a fun event for active outdoor communities across Queensland. The Fraser Island (K’gari) Clean Up transpires yearly however due to COVID-19, the 2020 clean up had been cancelled. This year however, 2021, the clean-up was in full swing and the team here at Fulcrum Suspension were excited to be back and give a helping hand. The event was held on the weekend of the 21st to 24th of May 2021. Reminiscing about the 2019 Fraser Island (K’gari) Clean Up, ficu.org.au noted that a whopping 7,059kg of waste was removed! It was a huge effort from 754 volunteers from 24 x 4WD clubs that cleaned 125km of beach. This year not as much waste was removed (which is a good thing!) but we’ll dive into how the Fulcrum team started off their Fraser Clean up journey. The team that made it down to this year’s clean-up was Michael Keen (Signature Store Manager), Shane Boyle (Retail Support Coordinator) and Doug Steindl (Digital Marketing & eCommerce Manager). They started bright-eyed and bushy-tailed with a 3am drive up to Inskip Point to grab the first barge across. Having poor radio reception, they resorted to Michaels 70’s and 80’s music compilation which certainly raised eyebrows and put some people to sleep. The first day on the Island was a day to check in at Eurong beachfront, grab some Fraser Island (K’gari) Clean Up merchandise and raffle tickets, setup camp, travel and explore the east side. The heavy work was then to begin the next morning. According to the team, those that ventured up earlier had a beautiful day with sunny skies but were then faced with EXTREME weather through the night. This again met the team the next night, thankfully it was well after their dinner. Michael states that Doug faired the worse having to sleep in a damp swag from the first night. The day of Sunday the 23rd of May 2021 the clean-up began. At 8am all clubs and volunteers were designated cleaning / weeding areas with a quick brief from Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers on clean-up safety procedures. A full day of beach clean-up was then completed. Once all rubbish was collected, the waste was left to the event organisers to sort and compile. Some of the team then ventured off to the west side of the Island to explore a little more and some left for home straight after the clean-up. After arriving home and talking to the Fulcrum team, Michael stated, “What a weekend, there were plenty of memories to be shared!”. Overall, the Tangaroa Blue Foundation, an Australia-wide not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the removal and prevention of marine debris stated that over the 4 Day event, 6,135.65kgs of waste was removed. The actual number of items removed were just over 161,000 units which included plastic bits, bags, drink bottles, packaging, rope, nets, cans, fishing line, glass and a heap more. This was an incredible effort by all participating parties, 4WD communities and event organisers. Here at Fulcrum Suspensions, we appreciate being involved in such an amazing environmental cause and aim to continue our support and provide helping hands in the years to come. “Fulcrum Suspension acknowledges the Traditional Owners of K'gari (Fraser Island), The Butchulla people as well as the Australian Marine Debris Initiative, The Morris Family Foundation, and the community organisations / clubs and individuals involved in the collection and provision of data used in this report.”

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Fulcrum Capalaba has moved to a new location!

    June 04, 2021
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Fulcrum Capalaba has moved to a new location! We are excited to announce that our Fulcrum Capalaba Store has moved to a bigger, better and newer location. Our Fulcrum Capalaba Store has moved from 2/41 Neumann Rd, Capalaba to 30 Neumann Rd, Capalaba.   Check out our tour of the new Fulcrum Capalaba store!   You may be thinking, what was the reason for the move? Michael Sargent aka Sarge, Fulcrum Capalaba’s Branch Manager who is an avid 4X4 adventurer himself says it was time for them to expand their operations as they simply outgrew the workshop where they originally were. Their customer book in times were also blowing out to over 5 weeks on the regular which they are hoping to reduce substantially in the next couple of weeks. Further, something that is of value to the Brisbane / Bayside community is that Sarge will also be looking at employing more staff which will help with reducing their customer wait times. The new location is a massive 500m2 larger, allowing more lift bays and an extra wheel alignment bay to be installed, which the old location could not allow. The move overall was a smart one as it allows more vehicles to be worked on at once, meaning that more of our valued customers will have a faster and more efficient experience. Sarge states that once him and his team have fully settled into the new location, they are keen to start kicking goals and exceeding expectations. Fulcrum’s Retail & Franchise Operations Manager, Alan Moon states that it will not take too long to settle into the new Capalaba location as the Capalaba team are already operational and taking orders. Alan also noted it took Capalaba 5 working days to physically move and relocate to 30 Neumann Rd with months and months of planning behind the scenes. Sarge says, “After being there for 1 week it now feels like home”. After only being in the new workshop for a week, Fulcrum Capalaba is already showing signs increased suspension jobs, as well as larger scopes of work being conducted due to new staff and more space to get jobs done. With more space the team at Capalaba can keep moving on other jobs even if there is a problem with parts supply. In terms of getting new or additional equipment, Capalaba have added 1 new hoist and have added a new tyre changing machine. Very soon Alan is hoping they will also receive another 2 post hoists with increased capacity plus an additional 6 tonne hoist for larger vehicles like Dodge Ram’s and similar. Capalaba’s goals for the next few years is that there is room for another 4 working bays/hoists onsite which will supercharge the store overtime. Everything at the Capalaba site is made for the future, from ease of deliveries of product, to storing product, to saving time operationally, it will take a little while before they realise the potential at the site. Overall, the team at Capalaba are very happy with the move. The workshop team are enjoying not working on top of each other, it is far easier to drop off vehicles on trailers (just drive in and out of the carpark) which it is perfect for race cars, ventilation will be better in summer, there are 8 extra car spaces for customers and the list goes on.  Check out Capalaba's Store today, by visiting them at 30 Neumann Rd, Capalaba.

  35. Fulcrum takes on the brand new 2021 Isuzu D-MAX

Fulcrum takes on the brand new 2021 Isuzu D-MAX

    September 03, 2020
Fulcrum takes on the brand new 2021 Isuzu D-MAX Exciting news! The 2021 Isuzu D-MAX has arrived, and Fulcrum are getting ready to offer it some serious upgrades to ensure your 4WD has the ultimate ride! Last week we got our hands on Shaun from 4WD Action’s brand new 2021 D-MAX to check out the suspension and see what needed improving. Our Research and Development team extensively examined the vehicle and took note of the comparisons between the old D-MAX and the ‘21 D-MAX. As we already offer suspension upgrades and solutions for the old Isuzu D-MAX, we have a good idea on what to look out for. We were very pleased to see many improvements in the ‘21 D-MAX. These improvements include revised front suspension geometry, the upper control arm is longer and mounted much higher in the vehicle. As a result of this change, suspension is much less affected by changes in ride height and suspension downward travel is increased. The front roll bar is revised, with more direct mounting giving more responsive on road handling. We also found the rear springs are now longer with only 2 leaves in the main pack, and soft pads between the leaves. This change will enhance ride comfort and wheel travel over rough terrains. Our R&D team then took measurements of the necessary components to develop the springs and shock absorbers for our upcoming Formula 4x4 lift kit! Measurements were also taken of the rear springs and mounting points on the chassis to develop our SuperPro Greaseable Shackles and Bushes. After examining the vehicle in detail and taking all necessary measurements to begin engineering our Formula 4x4 lift kit, the team then looked at design options for further increasing suspension travel. These options include SuperPro Front Upper Control Arms as the standard arms hold limitations in downward suspension travel,  and front diff relocation components to correct the CV shaft angles. Our R&D team also looked at design options for softer and stiffer SuperPro Roll Control Front Sway Bars and Roll Control Rear Sway Bars. After our Engineering team works through these options and starts designing repair and replacement upgrade solutions for the 2021 Isuzu D-MAX, we will begin testing each solution. All of our products are thoroughly tested at our testing facility and then put through the harshest real-world conditions to ensure your vehicle offers you the best possible results on and off road. Stay tuned for future updates and more information on our upcoming Formula 4x4 Lift Kit and other suspension solutions for the 2021 Isuzu D-MAX!

  39. Formula 4x4 Big Bore Review

    Formula 4x4 Big Bore Review

    July 05, 2019
Formula 4x4 Big Bore Customer Feedback The following is a detailed review of our Formula 4x4 Big Bore shocks absorbers. Sent in by one of customers who is currently toruing the Australian outback.     As part of planning a trip up the Central Arnhem Road and back across the Savannah Way, I needed to replace the OEM shock absorbers on my 2016 Patrol. I contacted Fulcrum Suspensions for advice. They have been my go to suspension company for over forty years on both my rally cars and 4X4’s. Their advice was to try the new Formula 4X4 Big Bore shock absorbers. My first impression driving the Patrol home after fitting, was that it was much nicer to drive as the front end was not as soft, thus reducing the inherent understeer. 9300 kilometers later I have found these initial impressions to be correct. The Formula 4x4 shock absorbers performed exceptionally on all road surfaces from smooth bitumen to corrugated dirt. After hundreds of kilometers of corrugations they were still cool enough to touch. I will not hesitate to recommend them to all my friends. The Formula 4x4 Big Bore shock absorbers where fitted to my 2016 - Y61 3 Litre Turbo Nissan Patrol Wagon towing Aussie Swag hard floor camper trailer (weight about 1 tonne with 170 Kgs tow ball weight). Vehicle moderately loaded with slightly more weight on left hand side.     Summary  The below is my summary of the shock absorber performance and above is a photo of my Patrol at the Wearyan River crossing on the Savannah Way.  (This was the overflow part of the river, the crossing was about 800mm deep and very rocky).  Hope this helps and thanks for the opportunity to try out the shocks. I will give you a call when I get a chance. Standard front springs, King Springs with air bags in rear.  Air bag pressure 18 PSI rear left, 14 PSI rear right. Tyres BFG KO2, Light Truck. Pressures on bitumen 32 front, 36 rear (cold), Pressures on dirt 24 front, 26 rear (cold).     Note 1: Most temperature reading taken mid morning after 2/3 hours driving. Note 2: Each set of readings taken within 2/3 minutes, however it was noted that with just a light breeze the shock absorbers did start to cool by 1 or 2 degrees within a few minutes. Note 3: The exhaust from the turbo and CAT is not far from the left front and may have added a little to the temperature readings.  The exhaust is close to the left rear and most likely contributed to the temperature readings, particularly at lower speeds. 41. MCA Coilover Installation at Fulcrum Suspensions

MCA Coilover Installation at Fulcrum Suspensions

    May 08, 2019
MCA Coilover Installation at Fulcrum Suspensions As Fulcrum Suspension transitions from TEIN coilovers to MCA coilovers our stores are beginning to fit them for our customers. Recently at Fulcrum Suspensions Yeerongpilly branch we fitted an MCA Race Prime coilover kit to a Nissan Skyline R32 and the final result was amazing! The MCA Race Prime coilover kit that was fitted, is designed for the track enthusiast or competitive driver with a focus on performance. With firmer spring rates and the shock absorber valved to ensure exceptional performance is maintained and handling is improved. These coilovers are both height and damper adjustable and come with a 2-year warranty, making them exceptional value for money.     Installation of the MCA Race Prime Coilover kit began by our technicians measuring the ride height from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the wheel arch. The next step saw the removal of the existing suspension from the vehicle. The coilovers themselves are fairly straight forward to install, with the strut top containing 3 bolts and then another two bolts into the hub (this can vary in other applications).      The next step during installation once the height was determined the vehicle was corner weighted with the weight of the driver in the vehicle to ensure equal distribution of weight in each corner as this application was a dedicated track car. We ensured the balance was right in the vehicle so the performance on the track was improved. This vehicle was also already fitted with a SuperPro rear sway bar which coupled with the new coilover suspension improved overall performance and handling. With all of these enhancement products fitted to the vehicle we were able to perform a full track wheel alignment. This ensured the best tyre contact with the track, which in turn improves tyre grip, stability and handling.     Fulcrum Suspensions currently stock a small range of Street Essentials and Street Performance, however we are able to obtain any coilover kit from the MCA range. With all kits being customisable our technicians will find the kit that fits your wants and needs. If you have been thinking about upgrading your vehicle’s suspension, whether it is for track of street, if you are looking for improved performance and increased handling talk to one of our suspension specialists regarding an MCA coilover kit. Call us on 1800 385 278, send us a messsage or contact your closest Fulcrum Suspension store todayto get your vehicle fitted with these unbeatable performance coilovers!         Our most popular MCA Street Performance Coilovers

  42. Fulcrum tackles Fraser Coast with the 4WD Action Team

Fulcrum tackles Fraser Coast with the 4WD Action Team

    March 26, 2019
Fulcrum tackles Fraser Coast with the 4WD Action Team! Preparation for our first trip with the 4WD Action team began earlier this year for what was expected to be a sunny, calm trip to Queensland’s iconic Fraser Island. The team was preparing themselves and the Hilux for a standard beach adventure not knowing they would be driving into the storm! The Fulcrum Suspension team attending the trip, Shane and Doug, were eager to test out the newly fitted out Hilux and to vigorously test our own Formula lift kit, and test our product is what we ensured we did on this unforgettable trip with the 4WD Action crew!   Watch the Full Episode on Youtube     The SuperPro and Formula 4x4 branded Hilux driven by the team for the trip was fitted with a few accessories before the trip. These accessories included an East Coast Bull bar, the big tube winch bar. In the bar was a Mean Mother Edge Series 12,000-pound winch with synthetic rope. To aid in running the fridge with all their supplies a dual battery set up was added to the vehicle. Just before the trip we also added new mud terrain tyres from General tires. These were their Grabbers in size 275/65 R18, added to a second set of standard SR5 wheels.   In covoy, letting tyre pressures out to jump on the Fraser Ferry   Suspension wise the Hilux is fitted with a Formula 4x4 Lift kit, SuperPro adjustable control arms, SuperPro replacement lower control arms, SuperPro adjustable sway bar links and SuperPro rear adjustable sway bar. The Formula 2-inch 4x4 lift kit has been fitted to vehicle for some time now and didn’t miss a beat on the trip, performing extremely well on basic sand driving and in some of the tougher sections of Fraser Island. This 4x4 suspension set up is tuned by our suspension specialists for optimum performance on and off road. The addition of the SuperPro 4x4 Suspension products to the Hilux not only enhancing the performance of the Formula 4x4 Lift Kit but each product provides its own benefits for on and off-road performance. The SuperPro adjustable control arms added to the front suspension of the vehicle allowed us to get the optimum wheel alignment on our now lifted vehicle. Also added is the SuperPro replacement lower control arms which provided the unique formula polyurethane bushings SuperPro has to offer in replacement of the original rubber. The addition of the SuperPro rear adjustable sway bar tops off this off-road suspension set up! Most 4WDers opt to remove sway bars from their vehicles, as there is a belief that sway bars reduce the articulation off road, where as the SuperPro 4x4 sway bar range is a game changer and is designed to not reduce articulation off road and provide correct stability on-road! Up before the sun the team set off to meet the rest of the crew at the barge to head to the island. At this point weather was permitting and our team were excited to hit the sand. As the team waited for Graham and Shaun, they were greeted by one of the most iconic locals, a dingo. Joined on the trip by a few other 4x4 accessory suppliers Fulcrum was in great company!   Waiting on the Fraser Island Beach   Lake Mackenzie was the first stop for the team, this fresh water lake situated on the island was the perfect stop for the team to take refreshing dip. The team then tackled the inland tracks that Fraser Island had to offer, this posed a couple of challenges including soft sand and step ups which were perfect opportunities to test our suspension. The next iconic stop for the team was the wreck of the Maheno ship which is seen on the beach. Check out Graham’s history on the wreck in the video to learn all about it! The first campsite came next up in the sand dunes.   We wanted to see if the Hilux could fly   The following day, with winds high, the team set out to Indian head. This gave everyone the challenge of very soft sand driving, another situation where our team tested our suspension set up’s limits. If our suspension can handle that, it can handle anything! Heading inland the convoy worked through the soft tracks to get to the valley of the giants, which is an area showcasing the logging history of the island and a rainforest type environment. Ngala Rocks, the biggest challenge on the island was the next destination. Fallen trees on the tracks was the first obstacle the team faced in this section. Winching the tree from the path of the convoy was their only option. Coffee Rocks was a change in driving style as they began this section, followed by some more soft sand. Due to Cyclone Oma and the weather it was causing made the team all turn back around before getting to the Sandy Cape.   Our Formula 4x4 Lift Kit in Action     Cyclone Oma was inches off the beach as the team travelled along the iconic beaches of Fraser Island. Racing rides and timing the gaps between the waves were only part of the battle they faced as winds on the island were predicted to reach up to 140km/h. The amount of sea foam visible on the beaches as the team drove the island was the first sign they encountered of Cyclone Oma, followed by numerous high tides and even higher winds. There was a race back to the barge to be able to get off the island, inland tracks were chosen to head south down the island. Passing Orchid Beach and heading further south. Having to get back on the beach meant that the whole team were faced with an ominous scene. Racing races, tides and fighting the winds, Cyclone Oma gave everyone one last huge challenge just before the entry into Champagne Pools. This race against the waves had our team with their heart in their mouth! After the team returned from the trip, we inspected not only our suspension set up but also our wheel alignment. Not only did the suspension set up withstand the gruelling 4wding it was put through we saw first hand results on why a 4x4 needs a regular wheel alignment after going off road to provide longevity to the suspension and tyres fitted to the vehicle. Check out our advice on setting up your 4x4 suspension for your vehicle at 59.45 in the YouTube video! We look forward to our next trip with 4WD Action.   4x4 Suspension Setup Advice

  43. Hilux Off Road Setup for 4WD Action - V1

Hilux Off Road Setup for 4WD Action - V1

    March 04, 2019
Our Gen 8 Hilux Off Road Setup for 4WD Action For our first ever trip with 4WD Action, we had to make sure the Hilux was ready to take off road. We were told that on our first trip we would be exploring Fraser Island, so we knew we didn’t have to go all out with accessories. We mainly use the Fulcrum Hilux as a test vehicle when it’s not being filmed or showcased at events. So, our Hilux already had most of the suspension already sorted.      East Coast Bullbars We are currently testing a range of bullbars supplied by East Coast Bullbars, to be supplied and installed by all our Fulcrum stores. We installed an Alloy bullbar onto our Hilux and are extremely impressed with the build quality, it was also impressive to feel how light the bar is! This check looks over all the steering and suspension components of the vehicle to ensure the safety of you and your passengers.     To help you stay safe on the roads these holidays here are some holiday driving tips; Be realistic, this includes time leaving and the distant travelled in one day or by one driver Be well rested before leaving Prepare the car, this includes not only packing all the necessities but ensuring it is mechanically sound to keep you safe No mobile phones and minimal distractions Keep the kids entertained Check your tyre pressures – including the spare! Be aware of all your surroundings while driving and further ahead than the car in front Hold the steering wheel with your left hand at 9 and your right hand at 3 (imagine it’s a clock face) As a passenger make sure you don’t have your feet on the dash – this is for airbag safety Look both ways when approaching a green light – just in case someone else isn’t paying attention When merging bring yourself up to speed with the traffic and position yourself alongside two cars, indicate and merge across Ensure your mirrors are adjusted correctly – you need to have a clear view behind and beside you Not only is it important to have your vehicles steering and suspension components checked -you also need to make sure your servicing is up to date Pack the car correctly and ensure all luggage is stowed away to prevent it becoming a projectile Leave a safe distance between you and the car in front Avoid stopping in the breakdown lane – it’s a dangerous spot to be Keep left unless overtaking Be patient on the roads Familiarise yourself with and check your lights, including your fog lights and when you should be using them Drive to the conditions, whether that is in high pedestrian volume areas, rain, fog or heat Avoid alcohol consumption – it impairs your ability to cope with emergencies Remember the same tips on the way home too!       Book in with your local Fulcrum Suspension store to have your vehicle checked before you head off on your next trip!

  45. Legal Lift Kits Queensland Laws Clarified.

Legal Lift Kits Queensland Laws Clarified.

    September 20, 2018
Queensland 4x4 Lift Kit Laws - Now Make Sense       The QLD government has come out with a statement and we couldnt be happier! As we have previously mentioned on social media and our website. Fulcrum Suspensions has been working with various stakeholders to respond to the government’s actions in relation to 4x4 Lift Kits in vehicle. With Fulcrum’s managing director, Graham Scudamore-Smith, being the President of the Australia Aftermarket Automotive Association and the issue being related to suspension it was something particularly important to us. Queensland Police launched a movement, ‘Operation Lift’ on the 4th of September 2018 which had been targeting lifted 4x4’s on Queensland roads and issuing them with fines, defect notices and in some cases impounding vehicles. Owners of lifted 4x4’s with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) had no notice before this movement and those that had previously fitted 50mm of suspension lift and 25mm in tyre found themselves in trouble. As of the 20th September 2018, the Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister, Mark Bailey, announced that there would be a reform to the laws that cover lift kits in vehicles.                 On September 24th, 2018 Fulcrum Suspensions attended a Transport and Main Roads forum held by the Vehicle Standards team in Brisbane regarding the vehicle lift laws. A room full of industry leaders and members of the Approved Person network for suspension, 4WD modifications and tyres ensured several questions were raised surrounding the Queensland lift laws.   Andrew Mahon, General Manager for Transport Regulation addressed the room covering key points from penalties, the current laws, the upcoming law changes and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) testing. The laws regarding vehicle lifts in Queensland have been said to be very unclear for individuals to interpret, Mr Mahon began by clarifying these laws.   There were a few industry professionals in the room who too were unsure of these laws before Mr. Mahon’s clarification, causing much discussion about the way the laws are written and presented. It was then presented that penalties not only applied for the driver of an illegally modified vehicle but also for the owner, modifier and any approved person.   The changes to LS9 and LS10 in the code look set to happen in October 2018 – the current laws within the code and the changes can be seen below.   Fulcrum Suspensions are the suspension specialists, fitting and/or selling 4x4 lift kits most days of the week. All suspension kits available through Fulcrum Suspension comply to 50mm lift ruling with different rated spring options. When supplying 4x4 Lift Kits our technicians will ensure to ask about constant loads, towing requirements and accessories (whether fitted or soon to be fitted).   Below are the current and future lift laws as presented by Queensland Transport and Main Roads Vehicle Standards team.     Current QLD Lift Laws As of 2018   Vehicles without ESC   Certification Suspension Tyres Body blocks Total lift Not required up to 50mm up to 25mm 0 mm up to 75mm Required up to 75mm up to 25mm up to 50mm up to 150mm*   Vehicles with ESC   Certification Suspension Tyres Body blocks Total lift Not Required up to 50mm up to 25mm 0 mm up to 75mm Required up to 75mm up to 25mm up to 50mm up to 150mm*       Testing requirements for certification Lane-change test ESC test Vehicles without ESC Required Not required Vehicles with ESC Required Required – (or letter from manufacturer or certified recalibration is accepted)   *Lifts above these limits require individual approvals from TMR.      This has been a big win for the Queensland 4x4 community! This reform will allow a lift of 75mm on an ESC equipped vehicles, under their owner certification rules. Meaning there will be no requirement for these suspension lifts to be tested and certified. This brings Queensland in line with the rest of Australia's state laws and the national code. Previously Queensland has allowed this lift on non-ESC equipped vehicles. Other changes in this reform include the maximum lift able to be tested and certified, which will raise from 125mm to 150mm. The Honourable Mark Bailey, Minister for Transport and Main Roads has said ‘Our aim is to balance road safety with allow 4WD enthusiasts the flexibility to manage their driving needs.’ He plans to continue consulting with industry professionals on aspects of the code which includes how to best maintain ESC functionality.                     Orginal Document Dated: 20 September 2018 Greater consistency on lift laws for Queensland 4WD Owners Queensland vehicle lift modification laws will change to be more consistent with other jurisdictions for 4WD motorists across the country after consultation with 4WD groups over the last few months. Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said he was pleased to announce the first major changes for Queensland’s 4WD lift laws since the Newman Government lift laws were introduced in 2012. “Next month we will be changing sections of the Queensland Code of Practice, which governs vehicle lift rules,” Mr Bailey said. “These changes, which follow consultation between my department and industry, will raise the maximum lift certifiable in Queensland from 125mm to 150mm. “Importantly, this will make Queensland’s maximum lift, with certification, consistent with the National Code Practice and other states. “For vehicles with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), vehicle owners will be able to raise their vehicles up to 75mm (incorporating a maximum of 50mm suspension and 25mm tyre increase) without certification. “Queensland already allows such a lift for non-ESC equipped vehicles. “The move to 75mm without certification, for ESC vehicles will ensure consistency with the rules in NSW and Victoria.” Mr Bailey said Transport and Main Roads would continue to consult with industry on other aspects of the code, including how to best maintain ESC functionality. “Our aim is to balance road safety with allowing 4WD enthusiasts the flexibility to manage their driving needs,” he said. The final version of the new Queensland Code of Practice will be released in October. For more information, contact Transport and Main Roads on 13 23 80.     Please reference this original document.          Here at Fulcrum Suspensions we are dedicated to ensuring we are providing our customers with the most up to date information relating to their vehicles suspension and it was no different in this instance. 46. QLD Legal 4x4 Lift Kits and Operation Lift

QLD Legal 4x4 Lift Kits and Operation Lift

    September 13, 2018
QLD Legal 4x4 Lift Kits and Operation Lift What is going on with the Queensland (QLD) 4WD lift kit and suspension modification laws? Recently (as of 12/09/2018) the headlines have been reporting on the crack down by the Queensland Police of 4WD's lifted to illegal heights. This movement, titled ‘Operation Lift’, by the Queensland Police has created a frenzy not only on the road but also on social media about all fitted 4x4 lift kits and their legality. At Fulcrum Suspensions we are one of Australia's leading suspension specialists, with over 40 years’ of experience in suspension. Which includes extensive history in providing the best solution for lifting your 4x4 legally. Our managing director, Graham Scudamore-Smith, is currently the president of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) and has worked closely within the association that has undertaken talks with the government regarding these types of law changes.   At Fulcrum we know we are providing you with the best, safest and a legal 4x4 lift kit for your 4WD. Not only do we back the work our stores do, but we also back the products we supply. Our suspension technicians will only supply and/or fit approved and legal lift kits that we make available through our large range of suspension options. If you have any questions we encourage you to get in touch with your local Fulcrum Store for expert advice on lifting your 4x4 vehicle. At Fulcrum Suspensions we have always and will always provide legal lift kits to our customers.   The Australian 4WD Industry Council – which is part of the AAAA, released a statement that addresses many of the concerns of drivers with lift kits and outlined the legitimacy of these concerns. Stuart Charity (Executive Director, AAAA) stated ‘These people did the right thing, they had legal lift kits performed by reputable and responsible suspension industry service providers. They did everything by the book and now they are worried and very angry – and they have every reason to be'.      As one of these reputable and responsible suspension industry service providers and also part of the AAAA, Fulcrum Suspensions has access to the AAAA legal hotline for their customers to support them during this time. If you have any concerns please reach out to us.  Read more of this statement below.       Source; Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association - Link to article.  Queensland 4WD Vehicle Modification Laws in Disarray The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA), the nation’s peak body representing the 4WD modification industry, expresses serious concern over a major enforcement action taken by the Queensland Government last week. Titled “Operation Lift”, the Queensland Police were instructed to fine, issue Defect Notices and impound modified 4WD vehicles based on recently changed Queensland laws, which are now more restrictive than any other state in Australia. Queensland 4WD laws were changed with no notice and they appear to be retrospective: motorists had no idea that vehicle lift modifications made legally last year to enhance the safety of their vehicles, may be illegal today. Many of these motorists who had responsible lift changes made to their 4WD vehicles were ambushed during this blitz. What makes this even more difficult to understand is that the standard 50mm (suspension) plus 25mm (tyre) lift for 4WD vehicles with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) is now only considered outside the law in Queensland. This is despite the fact that it is a state that features some of the most rugged roads in the country. A 75mm combined lift for ESC vehicles is a very modest lift that most 4WD owners use to ensure that the vehicle can tow caravans or boats and travel to remote and rural areas safely and reliably.  A 75mm combined lift is a safety measure and testament to this is the fact that most emergency vehicles have ESC along with 75mm lift modifications. NSW recently revised their lift laws and maintained that the modest 75mm lift will continue to be in operation for 4WD vehicles with ESC. Victoria also has the same law. According to AAAA Executive Director, Stuart Charity, this action directly contradicts a recent undertaking made by the Queensland Minister for Main Roads, Road Safety and Ports, Mark Bailey. “Only a couple of weeks ago Minister Bailey said that the Queensland Government had no intention of subjecting their vehicle owners to tougher regulations than the rest of Australia and that he supported national harmonisation. It has now become very clear that his Department has other plans. “4WD owners that undertook a 75 mm lift late last year had a modification that was well within the law. Today that lift is outside of the law. But at no stage has the Department provided any evidence that a 75mm lift is unsafe and at no stage has an explanation been given as to why this modification was safe for ESC equipped vehicles in QLD in 2017 but is not considered safe in 2018 – why is it safe in NSW and Victoria and not in Queensland ? The situation is seriously beyond belief,” Mr Charity stated. “The suspension industry is in total confusion because we were in negotiation with Queensland Government Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to supply computer simulation evidence to verify the ongoing compliance and safety of 75mm lifts when Operation Lift was launched.  Effectively the Queensland Police are now enforcing laws that TMR were still negotiating with our industry. “Vehicle owners that had only just picked up their vehicles or driven over the border from NSW were suddenly pulled off the road and told that their vehicle is not legal in Queensland. One driver picked up a new 4WD that had been modified by the authorised new car dealer and 15 hours later his car was issued with a Defect Notice by the Queensland Police – it is a ridiculous situation,” Mr Charity stated. As any 4WD suspension specialist or automotive engineer will attest, a 50mm + 25mm lift is very conservative. Many 4WD vehicles that tow a caravan or boat will have a lift of 50mm. That very same owner will most likely also change the tyres because 4WD vehicles are sold with urban tyres and if these cars are intended to be driven in rural conditions, larger diameter tyres will be required. A 25mm tyre lift is also very modest and substantially improves the vehicle’s safety. Based on the new TMR website wording, 4WD owners with a 50mm suspension lift are not allowed to change the diameter of the tyres, so you can now have one or the other, but not both. Mr Charity adds, “The conservative 75mm lift is now put in the same basket as dramatically modified vehicles that we see on the road from time to time.  As a responsible industry, we have often encouraged governments to undertake action to get the extreme lift vehicles off the road, because extreme modifications are not performed by the responsible industry that we represent. But somehow the 4WD owners that have opted for the legal 50 mm+ 25mm lift to make their cars safer in rural areas, have been caught up in this TMR crusade.” The AAAA recommends that any vehicle owner who has been issued with a Defect or Infringement Notice for a vehicle (with ESC) that has a maximum combination lift of 25mm tyres and 50mm suspension, write to the “Officer In Charge” of the Police station where the notice was issued. They should also ask for the Infringement to be reviewed, given that the TMR website provided guidance that a 75mm lift did not require additional certification and this was changed without informing the industry or the public. The AAAA also advises any penalised Queensland based 4WD vehicle owners who are customers of a retailer or workshop that is a member of the AAAA, that these companies have access to the AAAA legal hotline to support them. The AAAA is also encouraging drivers with previously legal 75mm lifts to contact the Minister and their local Member of Parliament in relation to this frustrating situation. In one week, more than 6,500 4WD owners joined a Facebook Group relating to this issue, with all of these QLD owners now about to make a direct representation to the Minister. “These 6,500 people did the right thing, they had legal lifts performed by reputable and responsible suspension industry service providers. They did everything by the book and how they are worried and very angry – and they have every reason to be,” Mr Charity stated. “I am calling on the Minister to meet with the suspension industry and representatives of the Queensland 4WD community. We understand that from time to time the Government will seek to get the extreme 4WD modifications off the road and we support that, but this is over-reach on a massive scale,” he added.   This above is excerpt from both the The Australian 4WD Industry Council and Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA)     Get in touch with Fulcrum Today! 1800 FULCRUM (385 278)

  47. Why and when do you need a Lift kit?

Why and when do you need a Lift kit?

    August 16, 2018
The most popular vehicle type on our roads now are SUV's and 4WD in particular 4x4 dual cab utes! Such as the Ford Ranger, Holden Colorado, Isuzu D-max, Mitsubishi Triton and Mazda Bt-50 to name a few. Whether they are purchased for the carrying capacity or their off road capabilities these vehicles are being seen more and more in our metropolitan areas. At the end of the day most 4x4’s don’t get out on the track as much as their owners would like, or away on that family holiday towing the caravan. A lot of them are the daily driver to and from work. That being said, it is important that the suspension chosen for the vehicle suits both the commute it will make to and from work and any off road, towing or carrying needs it has. The suspension system on any vehicle is complex and some would say even more complex on a 4x4. There are many components that need to be considered including, shocks, springs, bushes, shackles and bolts. Whether you are looking to lift your 4x4 to tackle those off-road tracks or fit air bags to accommodate for the fully loaded family caravan, Fulcrum Suspensions tailors a suspension solution to fit your needs. The factory suspension fitted to the vehicle suits the basic commute, however when upgrading all options must be explored. As soon as accessories are added to the vehicle, whether they be bullbars, roof cage and/or bigger tyres it alters the performance of the factory suspension. Therefore, an aftermarket option is often preferred. Some of the main points you need to consider before upgrading your suspensions are; Accessories fitted (eg. Steel or Alloy bullbar) Constant Load Tow Ball weight Towing weight (weight of caravan, camper trailer) Knowing all these factors will aid in providing you the best suspension upgrade/options for your vehicle. The suspension technician can theb determine the best weighted springs for your application and whether you will need to consider an alternative set up. This upgrade will provide you with increased towing and load carrying capabilities as well as off-roading capabilities.       After the components are fitted to the vehicle it is important to ensure that you have a suspension technician fine tune the system to ensure a comfortable and safe ride. This is done by ensuring the correct kit is fitted, that will transfer the load easily when towing, increase entry and exit angles, improve vehicles stability, handling and traction in all conditions. Increased clearance is another positive from a suspension upgrade. This lifts all the critical components from under the vehicle away from the ground. Make sure you talk to your local Fulcrum Suspensions store today to explore your 4x4 lift kit options!

  48. When should I get a Wheel Alignment?

When should I get a Wheel Alignment?

    June 13, 2018
Your cars wheel alignment affects a few things including the handling of the car. Therefore, it should be considered a vital maintenance service. Although aligning the cars wheels is a simple process it does require a suspension technician to ensure that the alignment is set and adjusted to the correct specifications. There may be several prompts to indicate that you need a wheel alignment, and these may include the car pulling to one side. Others can include your steering wheel not being centered and/or your tyres wearing unevenly. It is highly recommended that you take your car in for a wheel alignment every 6 months or 10,000kms. Just like most engine service requirements, this should not be overlooked. Also, should you hit a gutter or pothole it is recommended that you get a wheel alignment and check as it tends to throw out your wheel alignment. Even more so if you do happen to be in an accident no matter how minor.   What is a Wheel Alignment?  A wheel alignment is the measurement and adjustment of your cars steering and suspension angles. This ensures the wheels are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground. This keeps all four wheels working together to ensure maximum contact with the road. A wheel alignment includes camber, caster and toe angle adjustments.     What is Caster?   Caster angle is about ensuring the right balance for steering stability and cornering. This steering angle can be viewed from the side of the vehicle. Positive caster tilts towards the driver and negative caster tilts towards the front of the car. Caster angle is only relevant to the front of the vehicle.       What is Camber?   Camber is the inward or outward angle of the top of the cars tyre as viewed from the front of the car. Too much tilt either way is referred to as negative or positive camber and this can indicate improper alignment. Some components that can affect the camber are worn bearings, ball joints or other wheel suspension parts.       What is the Toe angle?   Toe angle is commonly the most needed adjustment for all cars, this angle is the straight-ahead position of the tyres. Just like when you walk, if you were walking perfectly straight you would have zero toe, but if your feet were pointed in it would be toe-in and if your feet were pointed out it would be toe-out. This angle is in both the front and the rear of the car. When the cars toe is in or out at higher speeds it can cause instability and tyre wear due to the car fighting against the excessive angle of the tyres.   Why do I need a Wheel Alignment? With a regular wheel alignment, you reduce the strain on the car, increase the cars safety, fuel efficiency and tyre life. A lot of people are not aware that the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as braking assist, stability control, lane departure warning and more can be affected by your wheels being misaligned. If it has been awhile since you got a wheel alignment for your car or if you are unsure whether you need one contact your local Fulcrum Suspensions store and talk to one of our suspension technicians today to get your wheels pointing straight!   How do you know if you need a Wheel Alignment?  Uneven or excessive steering pull Vehicle is pulling to left or right Brakes are slow to repond or activating unevenly Off centre steering wheel control Loud vibrations while driving Increased Braking distance Excessive or uneven tyre wear Your vehcile is difficult to control and steer   How much does a Wheel Alignment cost?  Front Wheel Alignment $85.00 Front & Rear Wheel Alignment $150 4x4 Wheel Alignment $100 (Non-Shim) We will review all four corners of your car to give you the perfect wheel alignment. We also include a free suspension check in our whee alignment service. What alot of people don't know is that leaf spring bushings stabilise the movement of the rear axle, inferior bushes in this area will cause the solid rear axle to move and impart rear end passive steer to the vehicle. It also causes the vehicle to wander all over the road and be unstable under heavy braking. This can be especially noticeable carrying a load or towing a boat or caravan. That is why SuperPro has created greasbale shackle and bushing kit solutions for the Ford Ranger and Mazda Bt-50. An ever increasing service repair opportunity for workshops is the leaf spring suspension system on a four wheel drive utility. The semi elliptical leaf spring used in these vehicles is attached to the chassis at the front of the spring via a fixed shackle and bushings, at the rear of the spring via a swing shackle with bushings. This effective axle locating system is often overlooked during service, however these components stabilise the movement of the rear axle, worn bushings will cause the vehicle to “wander” on the road and be unstable under heavy braking, especially when loaded or towing. The limited service life of shackle bushings can also cause wear of the shackle pins. Multi assembly greasable shackle & leaf spring bushing kits should be considered as an essential repair upgrade to securely stabilise the rear end of any 4WD while improving off-road performance. A unique situation exists in a repair workshop, many of these modern 4WD vehicles have accessories fitted to them, tow bars, long range fuel tanks, and in fact some vehicles in standard form require removal of a fuel tank to remove a spring shackle pin.     This is where the range of SuperPro multi assembly greasable shackles and bushings offer the you a time saving solution. Removal of the old shackle can be achieved by cutting or dissecting the old part and discarding it without having to remove other accessories. To ensure the customer receives a quality repair the innovative design of the greaseable shackles, pins and crush tubes allow grease access to the working surfaces of the bushings. SuperPro greasable shackles and fixed pins create a protection layer to prevent internal corrosion of the pins and shackles; this extends the functional life and durability of both bush and shackle together. As with all SuperPro products the 4x4 greasable shackle kits are designed from the ground up and with a long service life and satisfied customer in mind.          Features: Multiple piece shackles for easy fitment Protected grease nipples to avoid damage Special tubes to allow grease to flow SuperPro bushings Easy to follow fitting instructions supplied Everything required in one kit   See our range of 4x4 Lift Kits  Ford Range and Mazda Bt-50 4x4 greasable shackle & pin kits

    Fulcrum Partners with 4WD Action!

    March 20, 2018
The future of 4WDing has never looked so great! With 4x4 ownership on the rise, we have made sure that our range of 4x4 lift kits and other 4wd products are constantly getting better. Our 4x4 suspension range has expanded rapidly in the last few years, so we wanted to ensure that we had a way to test and showcase our 4x4 suspension upgrades. Luckily during this time 4WD Action had reached out to us about our Formula 4x4 lift kits, they expressed their interest in Formulas 4x4 performance and benefits as well as its extreme affordability. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. We offered to fit a Formula 4x4 (2 inch) Lift kit to Graham’s Isuzu D-Max including U-Bolts and SuperPro Greaseable Shackles, which where more than happy to supply. Knowing that the Formula 4x4 lift kit will be put to the test as Graham and the 4WD action team are know for hitting some rough off road tracks. We installed a Formula 4x4 Lift kit that is designed to raise the vehicle 2 inches (50mm). The D-Max lift kit is classed as an Enhancement Kit, built for comfort when off road and designed to carry light to heavy loads. Graham mentioned that the he would be doing a lot of on road driving in between trips and wanted to make sure his ride would be safe and comfortable under load, especially since his Isuzu D-Max was a dual cab. As the modern 4WD Dual cab utility, is normally coil sprung with a strut front end and leaf sprung rear with no rear sway bar support. Because of this dual cabs typically suffer from understeer and can be very unstable during high speed directional changes. When you load the vehicle with accessories, people, add a lift kit or tow the problem only gets worse. To counter this we offered to fit a SuperPro 4x4 sway bar which would correct all these issues and give the it more traction on and off road. You can read about why you should fit a sway bar to your 4WD here. To celebrate our new partnership with 4WD Action, you can get 5% off any of our Formula 4x4 lift kits by using the code '4WDACTION'.   Installing the Formula 4x4 Lift kit We headed to Fulcrum Suspensions Stafford for the install and to do some filming, our suspension technician team at stafford did some pre-setup work to get ready for the install. Once our team  was ready they got straight into it, taking off the wheels and installing the new 4x4 lift kit. Which includes two rear shocks two front readystruts, two upgraded leaf springs and a set of SuperPro greaseable shackles. When the springs where installed they moved onto installing the SuperPro 4x4 sway bar. The lift kit was a fast install as the kit came with already built readystruts, saving the team time by not having to install springs to the front shockies.  Overall the job only took 2-4 hours and included a full inspection and wheel alignment report for Graham to review. The end result was 50mm lift.          ISUZ-006R - Formula ReadyStrut Lift Kit D-Max This Formula 4x4 lift kit will raise the vehicle 40-50mm and provide improved handling and control. Ideal for on road and limited off road use.  This Enhancement Kit is designed to lift the vehicle 40-50mm and provide superior on and off road handling, load carrying and control. Formula 4x4 kits are a combination of Fulcrum testing and design as well as SuperPro Engineering. The kits are put together with high quality SuperPro components. Formula 4x4 shocks, designed by Fulcrum for comfort and made specifically for the Australian bush. The Formula leaf springs have been made from the high grade carbon Australian steel, to ensure we are giving your 4x4 the best support when off road.      RC0031RZ-20 - 20mm Heavy Duty 3 Position Adjustable Sway Bar     Fitting larger sway bars, particularly in the rear, has two main effects, vehicle balance in terms of understeer or oversteer and increased roll resistance. Both of these effects can provide increased overall handling and safety benefits in a 4WD vehicle. If you are looking for increased stability on the road or when towing, sway bars are a great upgrade option.         Fulcrum Suspension Stafford, technicians installing the Formula 4x4 lift for 4WD Action.    Formula 4x4 front readystruts installed on Graham’s Isuzu D-Max.   Formula 4x4 Leaf spring and rear shock absober installed on Graham’s Isuzu D-Max.   All these 4x4 upgrades will be showcased in the next few 4WD action episodes, keep an eye out for the blue shockies :D Check out our custom 4x4 Lift kit search to help find the perfect lift for your 4WD!

Best Ford Mustang S550 Suspension Upgrade | A Complete build List

    February 07, 2018
If you own a Mustang you definitely want to make sure it can perform to the best of its ability. The new Mustang S550 is seen as one of the most innovative cars Ford has produced in recent years. Bringing many changes to the Mustang platform. One of the major innovations Ford has made to the S550 is the new independent rear differential. Ford has brought new power to the S550 and further improved the Mustang brand, solidifying its stance in the car community. It has become a car for enthusiasts and every day drivers alike having a variety of price ranges and modifications to suit everyone. When one of our close friends came to us looking to get a custom suspension setup for his brand new S550 we were more than happy to help set him out. The Plan & Build Increase comfort, performance and handling by upgrading the Mustangs suspension. Providing greater control over the S550 whilst increasing the Mustangs overall traction. To do this we had to get a hold of few specialist manufacturers to see if they had the parts to completely overhaul the performance and handling of the S550. Luckily SuperPro was just finishing the development of their new Mustang S550 Roll Control range. So SuperPro really opened the range of upgrades we could provide this Mustang! Our next hurdle was deciding what to use for the main suspension system. Our good friends at Polyair reached out and proposed we have a look at their performance air systems. They had the perfect system for reliability and functionality so now we were set. We have added every part we used on this Mustang build to a list and have added some other recommendations to help suit everyone’s budget.    Main Suspension Parts         This is the air kit we installed for Chaz. 55. Why you should fit a Sway Bar to your 4WD

Why you should fit a Sway Bar to your 4WD

    January 15, 2018
Why you should fit a 4x4 Sway Bar to your 4WD Fitting a larger sway bar, particularly in the rear of a 4WD, has two main effects, vehicle balance in terms of understeer or oversteer and increased roll resistance. Both of these effects can provide increased overall handling and safety benefits in a 4WD vehicle. If you are looking for increased stability on the road or when towing, sway bars are a great upgrade option.   As most factory vehicles are partial towards understeer, fitting of a larger rear sway bar, or the addition of a sway bar, helps in providing a more neutral characteristic in the handling. This is due to the increase in roll stiffness at the rear, which changes the loading of the rear wheels under conditions of increased cornering load. SuperPro offers a great range of aftermarket sway bars engineered for many off-road applications, also offering many adjustable kits to best suit your 4WD build.        At the same time, as the rear end is resisting more of the roll, the front end resists less in proportion, leaving the front wheels more evenly loaded, producing more available front end grip. In the end an increase in overall stability can be achieved by balancing the vehicle. Another effect of introducing larger rear sway bars is a reduction in chassis roll. This reduces the effects of “roll camber”. Roll camber is the variation in the wheel and tyre camber setting due to chassis roll. During cornering the presence of chassis roll usually results in the outside wheels gaining positive camber. By increasing the roll stiffness and reducing roll camber effect, the wheel and tyre combination stays closer to its optimal setting. As an alternative, this could be remedied by starting out with large amounts of static camber to counteract the positive camber gain. The trade-off however is the resulting increased tyre wear, and reduction in straight-line handling. Now that the basics are covered, imagine a Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser or Toyota Hilux that has had a 4x4 lift kit installed and been lifted 50mm with a bulbar and winch package. It has been fitted out with a draw system, roof rack and tows a twenty foot caravan! This may be the extreme, but somewhere between this and a standard, off the showroom floor vehicle, is where most of these vehicles operate. The factory sway bars were never designed to control anything other than the standard vehicle at standard ride height and with something less than being loaded to their GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) limit. The modern 4WD Dual cab utility, almost the family sedan of this century. Is normally coil sprung with a strut front end and leaf sprung rear with no rear sway bar support. Becasue of this dual cabs typically suffer from understeer and can be very unstable during high speed directional changes. When you load the vehicle with accessories, people, change its height or tow the problem only gets worse.   'SuperPro 20mm Heavy Duty 2 Position Blade Adjustable Sway Bar installed on a Hilux.'      Upgrading to a 4x4 sway bar is the only way to compensate for: A change in centre of gravity of the chassis An increase in vehicle mass   Upgrading to a 4x4 sway bar will; Improve the stability of the vehicle at high speed Neutralise the factory understeer Increase tyre life Control the roll in load carrying applications Improve safety with no loss of comfort   The biggest resistance to the fitment of bigger 4x4 sway bar to 4WD vehicles is the flawed concept of the loss of articulation in the suspension. If the replacement sway bars are designed correctly and the sway bar links are lengthened, replacement sway bars can be fitted with minimal or no loss of articulation. However, the improvements to stability, safety and driveability will far outweigh any loss of articulation. So without reducing comfort or articulation, a sway bar will make the suspension system and tyres perform better, making the vehicle more responsive while neutralising understeer. Fitting a sway bar offers all round improvements in handling, tyre wear, comfort, safety and load carrying. It is one of the best handling improvements you can make.   Get Your 4WD Sway Bar Upgrade (4x4) SuperPro have engineered a large range of sway bars suited for a variety of 4WD's with different off-road applications. TEIN suspensions maintain their superior performance, and are highly durable. Quality of our products can withstand the high demands of the race track. This is what we see as the ideal sports suspension. Each of TEIN's products brings this ideal to reality.   Made for Street In certain terms, street usage may be the toughest situation for suspensions. Indeed, specifications for circuit or rally usage call for the ultimate refinement. However, adapting this into street usage, not only does it call for premium sports performance, but an additional requirement compatibility with series production fittings and comfort must also be fulfilled. In particular, since the partial revision of the safety regulations in Japan, the height adjustable shock absorbers which have been categorized as "competition auto parts" are now seen as parts with broad usage.   Fully Adjustable With adjustable coilovers you have complete control over your suspensions ride. Perfect for performance you can control how hard or soft you want your drive to be.   Serviceable and Rebuildable Fulcrum Suspensions the Authorised, exclusive TEIN distributors in Australia and can provide a range of services to repair, rebuild, re-valve and customise your TEIN coilovers. TEIN coilovers are designed and built to be remanufactured and returned to TEIN’s original specifications. All internal parts are carried as stock lines; however damaged strut bodies or assemblies will often need special procurement from TEIN Japan. Fulcrum does carry an assortment of second hand strut bodies and assemblies to assist in accident damage and repair. Some accident damaged coilovers may not be repairable. From the time the coilovers are received at the Remanufacturing Department at Moorooka, Brisbane, we require two days to strip and quote. Then from the time Fulcrum is authorised to carry out the repairs, we require two days. These times do not include freight times to and from Moorooka.   TEIN’s History "The one, who conquers Kanagawa, conquers the country." In the early 1980s, there were 2 youngsters who stood out in the crowd, in the kingdom of rally; Kanagawa. They were Hakaru Ichino and Yoshio Fujimoto. A co-driver and a 4driver, who actually started out as rivals from different teams. They were very aware of each other. Without a word, their runs and speed fiercely attracted one another. "Where can I find that incredibly fast driver named Fujimoto?" As Ichino's rally activity shifted to all Japan events, he was told to find his partner; "the" driver. Without hesitation, he found out through his friend how to reach Fujimoto and called him. "Why don't we compete in all Japan events together?" Of course Fujimoto immediately agreed. There was absolutely no reason for him to turn down such offer from Ichino, for whom he had sense of reverence. "Mr. Ichino always stays cool, and is great at gathering information. I can leave everything to him!" This was where it all began. Exceptional performance and durability. TEIN shock absorbers were then given high marks not only for use in rally events but also in other fields; on the street and at the circuit. They achieved an astonishingly high 80% share of dampers used in N1 Taikyu races (currently known as Super Taikyu). "There is NO doubt in what we have been doing at TEIN. We can go for it!" In 1990, their wait was over and they released original products under the TEIN brand. In no time, they were flooded with orders, exceeding their production capability. Their success as an International rally team shed light on the company. In 1987, 2 years after their first season competing in all Japan events, they made their first challenge in overseas races; Hong Kong-Beijing Rally. 2 years later in 1989, they finally made their way to WRC. Things went well and smoothly for Fujimoto. He became the first Japanese ever to be chosen as a driver for a Toyota works team. In 1995, he was crowned with an overall victory in the Safari Rally; and again he was the first Japanese to have this distinction. Their names; 'Ichino' and 'Fujimoto', became well known throughout the world. "Rally is where we started. We would always like to be in-touch with the real market. Putting ourselves at the forefront of the scene allows us to listen to the consumers' real voice." By experiencing TEIN products firsthand, their conviction as company executives were developed and refined. Their company, TEIN, continues to compete in motorsports to this day.   Fulcrum has the perfect TEIN upgrade for your car  Fulcrum Suspensions works closely with the TEIN team over in Japan to make sure Australia  gets the gear everyone is looking for. 58. Why do you need a Wheel Alignment?

Why do you need a Wheel Alignment?

    December 04, 2017
4 Reasons why you need a Wheel Alignment every 6 Months (10,000km)! Get a Free Suspension Saftey Check and get a Wheel Alignment from our Fulcrum Technicians. Many of us don't realise the importance of a proper wheel alignment, wheel alignments can improve handling, safety, comfort and performance. As great as Australia's roads are, they are still rough and after regular use even the best suspension systems will fall out of alignment. If your cars wheels do fall out of alignment you will notice that your car will either pull to one side (left/right). It may also become increasingly harder to control your car, especially when going around corners. Your cars left or right pull will be extremely noticeable on any highway or when you are driving fast on a straight. Having misaligned wheels and the wrong camber, caster or toe adjustment is huge safety risk not just for yourself but for the others on the road. If you ever have work done on your cars suspension then you will also need a wheel alignment as any adjustment to your cars suspension system will displace its camber/caster/toe adjustment. If a wheel alignment is done properly it will make driving your car so much more pleasant and safe.  It is very important that we regularly get your wheels aligned at least every 10,000km or roughly every 6 months. Fulcrum offers a free suspension safety check so if you are not sure you need a wheel alignment. Feel free to get one of our experienced suspension technicians to diagnose your car free of charge. Below are a couple of reasons why you need to regularly have your car wheel aligned by Fulcrum .       Increased Tyre Life What would you rather pay for? New tyres or a wheel alignment?  More resistance to the road surface means more pressure on your tyres, leading to faster wear and tear. This is how your tyre becomes bald on one side making them uneven and reducing tyre traction. Not only is it dangerous to drive on uneven tyres, it also means that you have to buy a set new set of tyres sooner.   Save Fuel Petrol prices aren’t getting any cheaper, and who wants to pay more than they have to for anything?  When the wheels of your car are not aligned there is uneven pressure on the tyres. They tend to push against each other. When that happens the car faces uneven friction and much more resistance from the road surface. This means that your car has to work much harder to move forward and much more fuel is burned than normal.   Strain On The Car Having a car with badly aligned wheels also leads to other connected problems. Possibility of ABS Brake system malfunction  The tendency to pull to one side due to uneven tyres causes problems in the steering system. It also leads to uneven braking. Not having your wheels aligned will affect the overall suspension of your car, decreasing performance and reliability.     Safety Without regular wheel alignment’s you are putting yours and your family’s life in danger.  If your car pulls to one side it is very dangerous. When the road conditions change, such as a wet road and you are forced to hard brake. This slight left or right pull you normally feel is greatly magnified increasing your chances of an accident.  When you first hear about wheel alignments, they may not sound like an important thing for car maintenance. But if you make sure your car is aligned you will see a much longer service life and have far safer/enjoyable driving experience.

  59. Fulcrum at the 2017 4WD Corroboree

Fulcrum at the 2017 4WD Corroboree

    October 09, 2017
Over the long weekend in Queensland the Fulcrum Team attended the 37th Annual 4WD Queensland Corroboree at the Bluff Creek campgrounds in Kenilworth. The event was hosted by the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club of QLD (Inc) in association with Four Wheel Drive QLD and saw over 600 attendees camping for the weekend across the property.   'Arriving at the Corrobreee with Toby Prices Trophy Truck'.   The 2017 Corroboree had 4WD Clubs from around the state gather together for a three-day event of 4wding, entertainment, displays and of course the NRL Grand Final. Fulcrum was the Diamond sponsor for the event and had one of the largest displays situated at the entering crossroads. In the sweltering heat the Fulcrum Team created an inviting display showcasing their product range and got to know the attending members of the 4WD Community. The centre piece, or main attraction, of the Fulcrum display was Toby Price’s Trophy Truck from the Finke Desert Race. This truck had a lot of attention and questions, even more so when it went for a quick trip around the camp, it could be heard from the other side of the property as it cruised around.   'The Fulcrum Tent and campsite under the setting sun'.   'Tobys Fulcrum Trophy truck was the center piece to our campsite'.   While at the event the Fulcrum Hilux, and other vehicles in the Fulcrum Team, went on a few medium and difficult 4WD Trips.  These trips took the team to some spectacular lookouts and through the country side of Kenilworth. The team tackled hill climbs, deep wombat holes, rocky descents, several creek crossings and more. These trips also allowed Fulcrum to test their own suspension in new conditions and terrains.   'The Formula truck holding at the top of hill in a 4WD convoy'.   'Alan driving the Fulcrum Hilux down a offroad track'.   The Fulcrum Team also participated in a Tug-Of-War competition between the 4WD Clubs on the Saturday afternoon. Going up against the Gold Coast 4WD Club in a mixed team and winning (with two women from the Mitsubishi 4WD Club completing our team). Due to not competing against any other team this made the Fulcrum Team #undefeated.         "Fulcrum the tug of war champs".   On the Saturday night a Mitsubishi sponsored band, Just Cruisin’, played for the attendees. During this show the Fulcrum Team sat around their new branded fire pit and enjoyed the atmosphere. Due to our prime location we could also enjoy the band as they covered some great old classics! #douglife Sunday was another great day that saw many more people visit our display, get a quote and/or purchase some 4WD products from us. Our team were on hand all weekend for all the attendee’s suspensions queries and in some cases fixes or just for a great old chat! As Sunday came to a close we saw everyone come together under the stars to watch the broadcasted NRL Grand Final, on a large projector. Before and during half time raffles were also held where some attendees won some great prizes, including Fulcrum Voucher. Dedicated NRL fans watched right until the end even after the rain started! As the event winded down the weather took a change and saw the rains begin. With a full 24 hours’ worth of rain from Sunday night it was a relief come Tuesday as the sun came back out before the Tow Truck had to pick up the Trophy Truck. Fulcrum wishes to thank the Mitsubishi 4WD Owners Club for the opportunity to be the Diamond Sponsors for the event and all those who came over to the display to say hello! We hope to attend more of these events in the future and become more involved with the 4WD Clubs around the country.   Here is a cool Timelapse of the 2017 4WD Corroboree       "Fulcrum Suspensions - 2017 4WD Corroboree timelapse compilation". 60. SuperPro 4x4 Lift Correction Arms for the Nissan Patrol (GQ - GU) - TRC1015

SuperPro 4x4 Lift Correction Arms for the Nissan Patrol (GQ - GU) - TRC1015

    September 27, 2017
After developing, what is arguably, the most sophisticated, castor increase and high articulation and replacement Radius arms for the Toyota Landcruiser. SuperPro has now created the best radius arms for the Nissan Patrol! - TRC1015 The SuperPro 4x4 Lift Correction Arms incorporate SuperPro Hybrid Blade Technology and have been developed using sophisticated Finite Element Analysis programming, used extensively in the OE environment, along with a rigorous testing regime both in the lab and in the field. The combination of a 20% increase in sectional properties combined with the use of OE grade High Strength, High Toughness Australian steel, the result is an arm of comparable weight to the original radius arm, with increased strength, built for all on road and off-road conditions.  Why be concerned about Castor? It should be common knowledge by now that raising a vehicle washes off castor. The effects of decreased castor are a loss of straight line stability, vague steering at higher speeds and can cause castor shimmy. The SuperPro Lift Correction Arm Kit solves the issues with “built in” castor correction in the design, with nearly 4 Degrees for a 50mm lift and 2.5 Degrees for a 75mm lift. SuperPros Nissan Patrol Radius Arms have been designed with castor correction to only suit raised vehicles. The design uses concentric bushings with advantages such as durability, comfort and increased articulation over non-centrally located bushings.     Why deliver more Articulation? Articulation is critical to maintain tyre contact and keeping the cabin stable in rough road and off road scenarios. Articulation is the ‘hanging point’ for many aftermarket Radius arms, which continue to use the OE bushings or inferior replacement rubber alternatives. The SuperPro Radius Arm Bushings utilises the SuperPro Hybrid material and offers superior articulation by redefining the form and function of the bushing in this location. By redesigning the profile of the bushing and creating a pocket for the SuperPro Hybrid material to flow, a higher articulating bush with far greater durability has been created. The addition of a larger inner tube has led to a more robust part for high speed highway stability and off road ruggedness without compromising NVH. Why be concerned about un-sprung weight? When it comes to a radius arm and vehicle suspension, unsprung weight is a critical factor.  It affects not only ride and comfort but the dynamic system dampening and harshness.  Vehicle Manufacturers spend a significant amount of time tuning vehicle suspension systems to ensure resonant frequencies are mitigated and tyre to road contact is maximised in all conditions, altering the unsprung mass of components has potential to compromise this.   The SuperPro Lift Correction Arm retains the OE design intent by providing an equally weighted arm. Solid section radius arms may well be rugged for the extremist 4x4 user, but the extra weight does cause concerns and adds stress to other suspension components. This can be an issue on heavily corrugated roads where the extra unsprung mass generates more energy that has to be absorbed by the shock absorbers, add to this, a set of bigger, heavier wheels and tyres and this issue is further exacerbated.  With advances in materials and engineering designs, a smarter hollow section option exists today over the “old school” solid design. Now there is no reason to compromise on road handling for off road performance and durability.   Call us for more information 1800 385 278 Find a 4x4 Lift Kit for your Patrol Check out TRC1015 - SuperPros Lift Correction Arm Check out other SuperPro Upgrades for the Nissan Patrol

  61. Fulcrum Apprentices at round four of the Australian Production Car Series

Fulcrum Apprentices at round four of the Australian Production Car Series

    September 22, 2017
Fulcrum and SuperPro brand ambassador Chaz Mostert team up at Queensland Raceway to offer Fulcrum apprentices an opportunity of a lifetime! Two of Fulcrum Suspensions top performing apprentices, from the corporate stores in South East Queensland, were chosen to attend round four of the Australian Production Car Series at Queensland Raceway during the weekend of the 4th to 6th of August. The boys got the opportunity to work with Team DPO on their Ford Focus during the round. The Focus was driven by SuperPro Brand Ambassador and V8 SuperCar driver, Chaz Mostert and Nathan Morcom. The Australian Production Car series sees modified ‘daily driven’ vehicles raced in several classes. It is part of CAMS production car racing and the CAMS Shannons Australian Motor Racing nationals. The Australian Production Car Series displays the abilities of the vehicles within each class that can be purchased in the domestic automotive market This series also allows many enthusiasts looking to get involved the opportunity to spread costs of the cars across two or three driver arrangements. Making it more affordable and accessible for people to live out what is a lot of people’s childhood dreams! These tuned and race prepared vehicles all fall into seven classes A through to F which covers, Extreme Performance, High Performance, Performance, Production, Compact and Diesel. Class I is also part of it which is for Invitational drivers. Fulcrum strives to provide their apprentices many options and opportunities to learn both in and outside the workshops. The opportunity that the Australian Production Car series provided the Fulcrum apprentices was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the boys and exposed them to diverse and interesting racing and cars. Moving forward Fulcrum hopes to leverage their partnerships with not only well-known Race Car drivers but also through event sponsorship to continue to provide their team with the opportunity to be exposed to all facets of the Automotive World and most importantly have fun!   "Putting the wheels back on." 62. Testing Formula & SuperPro's 4x4 Range

    Testing Formula & SuperPro's 4x4 Range

    September 11, 2017
It was Monday morning and the air still had that cold bite to it. We had organised a team of Fulcrum Suspension specialists, including some of our store managers and SuperPro engineers. All too extensively evaluate Formulas new 4x4 lift kits, Leaf springs and SuperPros 4x4 suspension parts for the Ranger, Hilux & Patrol. At Fulcrum we all believe that in order to properly vouch for a product you must test it first hand to know its strengths and weaknesses, so you can give the best advice to a customer looking for a suspension upgrade.   Heading South to go 4WDing Planned the week before we headed South of Ipswich to visit SDT's 4x4 training track at Boonah to test how well Formulas  new, 4x4 lift kits handel and what suspension improvements it gave. We also had installed SuperPro Swaybars, Control arms and bushes on the Hilux, Ranger & Patrol to see what flex increase and drive handling we could further push the 4WD's to get. After arriving we went through SDT's safety briefing and then went straight to our 4WD's to give them a pre safety check before heading out making sure we had enough water for the day, that the car was looking ready to head out. Happy with everything we let out the air in our tyres to give the car more traction in the Offroad terrain and then proceeded to head out. This is just about when one of our employees got really excited. "Letting out the Hilux's Tyre Pressure, getting ready to hit the track". "Shane excited to hit the 4x4 tracks".   Hitting the Track and Going Offroad Finally ready to head out we form up a convoy and head out into the Australian bush, getting ready to traverse marsh/swampy lands, small creeks, rocky landscapes, forest tracks and farmland. Looking to test the suspension products in as many real world conditions as possible. We manage to traverse a few hill climbs with ease, the Patrol built by Fulcrum Capalaba’s manager, didn’t even flinch at any of the hill climbs. We moved on to tacking a few wombat holes and gulley’s, taking it slow but so far everything we threw at the cars, the suspension handled it all with ease. The SuperPro parts really giving a boost in driver control and handling, the Formula 4x4 lift kits giving a smooth ride for all passengers and giving enough clearance to traverse the rocky terrain we encountered. "Stopping at the bottom of a hill, waiting to climb up". "Showing off the Formula 4x4 Lift kit with SuperPros Swaybar and Control arms fitted to the 2015 Hilux". "Formula 4x4 Hilux". "Formula 4x4 Hilux". "Fucrum Capalabas Patrol desceding a hill, getting ready to take on some wombat holes".     "Quick video showing off the 4WD's and suspension in action".   Our Final Thoughts & Feelings After spending the morning driving South of Ipswich and then spending the whole day in Offroad terrain, we got a rough understanding on how well the products will perform in constant everyday conditions. Formula 4x4 Lift Kits The Formula 4x4 Lift really increased the vehicles driving capability, enhancing the vehicles Offroad capability and giving extra handling/control to the driver. When driving Offroad you can really feel the difference, all those bumps you would sometimes feel in the bitumen just disappear, but at the same time Formula has not sacrificed comfort for performance. The 4x4 Kit offering a greater set of control to the driver compared to others. The Formula 4x4 Lift kit gives a standard 2" inch lift giving the 4WD the much needed clearance to handle gulley’s and rocky terrain. In the vehicles tested it was seen that the flex provided by the kit ensures that the vehicle maintains traction in all standard and extreme 4x4 situations (gulley’s, wombat holes and rock crawling). No matter the terrain that was thrown at the 4x4 kit, rocks, logs, large hills and gulley’s the suspension managed to overcome all obstacles and power through the 4x4 track with ease. SuperPro Arms, Swaybars, Links & More The SuperPro upper control arms really helped with on and off road handling. Paired with the Formula 4x4 Lift Kit these arms delivered up to 3 degrees of caster along with extra camber adjustment with increased clearance between spring and control arm at full articulation, allowing for the optimum alignment settings for a 2” lifted vehicle. This allowed for the Hilux to have a good footprint of the tyre to maintain traction no matter what the terrain threw at us! The SuperPro Swaybars & links really attributed to the great on road handling without restricting the off road performance.      Check out our Formula 4x4 Lift Kit Range Find a Store Near you.

  69. An update from Dave Scott at the Australian Tarmac Rally

An update from Dave Scott at the Australian Tarmac Rally

    July 27, 2016
The Australian Tarmac Rally Championship is off to a flying start with what is possibly the best piece of Tarmac Rally road in Australia. The Victorian ski resort of Mt Baw Baw hosted the first round of the ATRC last weekend and the Fulcrum Suspensions sponsored Subaru of David Scott and Michelle Berardo were a last minute entry. “We had 4 days to prepare the car which had not been run in 2 years since its last event in Targa Tasmania in 2010. Fulcrum Suspensions, PerFOURmance Motorsport, and Hollis Scott Racing pulled together and we had the car on the trailer and en-route to Victoria in 4 days, a mammoth effort and very much appreciated” Scott said.   Scott went on to say, “We had no time to test the car at speed before the event and our first serious drive was the prologue immediately before the first stage. As testimony to the talents of the Fulcrum Suspensions team the car was fast as soon as it hit the ground and we won the prologue by 16 seconds and won 4 of the next 6 stages, finishing the day in the lead.” The untested piece of road was thought to be an excellent choice for a tarmac rally but until the flag fell on the first stage no one really knew how good the run would be. The road starts downhill, levels out, and then continues uphill with the steepest rise of any public road in the southern hemisphere. There are fast sections and tight and twisty phases with some of those fantastic “suck it up and hold it flat” corners. The first two stages were almost dry with some patchy damp corners, and then rain kept the road wet most of the time. The Subaru bottomed out hard on the third stage, which cut a radiator hose and fractured the exhaust.  There was time in service without penalty to replace the hose and the car was back running. The exhaust could not be repaired, however it did not slow the car much and did not seem to be getting worse. The team attempted to purchase replacement parts from Melbourne on Saturday but were unable to do so. Day 2 started with a cautious first run; the exhaust continued to show no signs of worsening so a flat-out charge on the second run was planned. Unfortunately, the exhaust was not able to cope and blew out early in the stage and the team were forced to retire from the event.   Scott was up-beat about the result and said that while it would have been nice to come home with a fairytale ending to an 11th hour entry, realistically he had learnt that the team was competitive at that level and capable of winning an event or two. “We will be better prepared for the next one and hopefully come away with a win,” he said.   Shop Fulcrum Suspensions Find a Store Near you.

Well the car is back in the workshop of PerFOURmance Motorsport and stripped down. The exhaust is much worse than first thought and I was able to break the pipe it into two parts while it was still in the car by folding it back and forth (see attached pictures). The damage had started as a crack just under the weld and finally had just about broken all the way around. We have repaired it now stronger than ever so we won’t see that problem again.

Fulcrum and TEIN - A Partnership for the Future

    July 27, 2016
TEIN is well known as the manufacturer of one of the most technically advanced coilover units produced in Japan. The TEIN coilover was originally designed by two Japanese rallying rivals, Hakaru Ichino and Yoshio Fujimoto. They formed a partnership with each other in the late 1980's but found the shock absorbers at the time were not suited to their style of rallying SO they decided to design and build their own, and by the early 1990's released their first units under the TEchnical INnovation, or TEIN, a name which represents the company policy to produce the best products with the latest technology.
