World Time Attack Review - Jason Naidoo ( Sponsored Driver)

The Group one clubsprint is announced over the p.a !

We all rush into our cars in an effort to be at the front of the grid. I ask the R35 GTR's, ahead of me, "do you guys mind if I go out first"?
I'm keen and ready to rock.
First lap out I manage 1.45.02 and we get red flagged and subsequently pull into pit lane. After a brief stop we restart and were off again, but cannot decrease my time from the first lap which was the best.

Back in the pits, my main rival Duncan in his R35 "monster ethanol powered" GTR tips me by 0.02 of a second.
I am showing better consistency so i'm confident, I feel as if there are no other competitors.....a bit too confident. Little did I notice a close friend, and someone i've been mentoring was 0.3 away from me and just as consistent. By the second session none improve bar one, my good friend Nik, aka "The Spartan", with a blistering 1.44'88.

My student had just raised the bar, beating the master, so to speak. I felt the heat and sorry to say could not catch him. This certainly is not the plan I had in mind but wait, we still had day two. I peer over at Nik's garage and see him and his sponsor Indy doing a rain dance. I'm praying to the god's,  "please no rain for day two I need this win, i'll go to church, i'll give to charity".

Day two clear skies and cool weather, one of the God's have responded. Learning from day one I am now aware of all competitors. Dave another Evo driver shows promise, and with a nickname "the Stig" he is definately not one to discount. So I've got "The Spartan" to catch, "Monster GTR" to keep at bay and "The Stig" hot on my heels. Stig reels off a 1.45.3 early in session one, I get slower and The Spartan increased his lead to an astonishing 1.44'37. By this stage I acknowledge inevitable defeat but embrace my experience and placing. The day has one more session but no improvements so ends our World Time Attack venture.

1st. Nik "The Spartan"
2nd Duncan "Monster GTR"
3rd ME woohoo
4th Dave "The Stig"

I am happy with my result. Like 99% of  human kind I would prefer 1st but for a grand event like this I'm very happy with my place. What a spectacle, from the crowds to the traders to the garages what a buzz. A great succes for me and i'm sure the spectators.

Thanks to Graham @ Fulcrum Suspensions, Matt @ F&E Autoworks and CT @ Yokohama. Not forgetting the Sydney Time Attack Race Team (S.T.A.R.T.) - Shifty, Stig, Spartan, BYP & Biiillly.

Thanks for your support
Jason "The African Stig" Naidoo

NSW Car Modification Laws

MINISTER AGREES TO FURTHER CONSULTATION ON NSW CAR MODIFICATION LAWS

NSW MINISTER FOR ROADS: MICHAEL DALEY MP
NEWS RELEASE: Wednesday 29 July 2009

Minister for Roads Michael Daley today met with representatives from the 4WD community and car industry who asked for the introduction of proposed vehicle modification rules to be delayed and for more time to consult.
Mr Daley said he agreed to put the rule changes on hold and that more consultation was needed following the meeting.
“I’ve listened to feedback from the industry and the community, and have agreed to set up a working party to look more closely at how we are going to address this road safety issue,” he said.
“All of those who attended today’s meeting agreed that safety is paramount and that unsafe modifications of vehicles do need be stamped out.
“The working group will include representatives from the NSW Centre for Road Safety, Four Wheel Drive NSW-ACT, Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association, the Australian 4WD Industry Council as well as other agencies and experts,” Mr Daley said.
Executive Director of Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association Stuart Charity said this was a terrific outcome.
“We’re passionate about road safety and we understand the intent of the regulation is to make the roads safer,” he said.
We’re looking forward to working towards a practical solution that meets road safety objectives while also taking industry views into account,” Mr Charity said.
Greg Redfern from Four Wheel Drive NSW-ACT also welcomed the outcome and said the working group would have their full support.
“We want to eliminate unsafe practices in the driving community and we’ll work with the government to make sure these new regulations meet those objectives without any adverse consequences for the motoring community at large,” he said.
“We all agree that there is no place for extreme and illegal modifications, but the clubs in our association follow a strict code of conduct and ethics, and we want to make sure they’re not punished,” Mr Redfern said.
